Subject: Showing progressing work threads?

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Mon, 23 July 2007 at 5:06 PM · edited Fri, 07 February 2025 at 12:53 AM

I'm thinking about this (and my head is overheating)

I've been doing threads where people can see how a project starts and progresses. A while back there were some discussions how it would be nice to do this. I quite enjoy the process and feedback I get, and it gives me opportunity to improve what I make. Perhaps people get a glimpse into the proces, or get inspired or... whateve they can get out of it....

But... Lately I've been feeling like I'm just annoying people, and can't tell if I'm just over-reacting, or if this is really happening.

So... opinions please?

Don't know too much about this forum, but we love them in Cinema. You can learn a lot by seeing how someone else puts a scene together, and from the feedback.

I don't comment, cuz I don't know what I'm talking about, but I like looking in. One day, I aspire to be able to do such things. So, my vote is keep posting.

Well, I always enjoy seeing WIP threads myself. I may not always comment, mainly because by the time I get around to reading the thread someone else has already addressed any issues I may happen to notice. But posting Works in Process can certainly be educational for both the worker and viewers alike.

When I post WIP's of my own they are generally in a Lightwave or Maya forum 'cause that's what I'm generally working in at the time.

Hi Conniekat8

You know I started thinking about what you were thinking about but then I started thinking about a tuna salad sandwich and forgot what it was that we were thinking about.

Cheers

I've got a big bowl of tuna salad.  I'll load it into the dvd player and send you some.

Why do you feel like you've been annoying people?  Have you been running your fingernails across the chaulkboard?

stormchaser ( ) posted Mon, 23 July 2007 at 7:24 PM

Connie, keep the WIP's coming. Seeing how something progresses is one of the best things on this site. I have never tried modelling but seeing what you & others have done has given me the inspiration to give it a go one day. So when the day comes when I actually try it at least I'll know what some of the terminology & stuff means.
I'd also like to see a thread where people put up there WIP's on some scenes they're currently working on in Poser etc.

Hi Stormchaser

Today is just as good as any.

Yeah, WIP's with scenes by other people would be wonderful!!!
(I haven't done any scenes in ages)

Why I think I've been annoying people, I'm not quite sure. Perhaps I'm just not in a really good mood today. I really can't put my finger on it.  Sometimes I wonder if pople don't go, bah, who does she thinks she is...

All that reminds me, long time ago, a friend told me I was 'definately neurotic enough to make a good artist'...  Maybe that's all it is, I'm having a neurotic moment, hour, day... life... LOL
I got the neurotic part down pat...

Connie - You're definitely not annoying people, you can forget that for a start. I don't care if you're neurotic, we still love you & your work! :thumbupboth:

ok now you are annoying me, you got a fantabulous desert and I don't get a taste, that is annoying. :tt2: in any case how dare you post artwork under construction in a forum where people come to gossip. it gets in the way of all the juicy gossip. 😠 Um what? you mean this is an art forum? nevermind. 😊 Keep up the good work ConnieKat :thumbupboth:

I look in WIP threads from time to time. You never know when you might see a trick you didn't think of. There is a fine line though, we need to be carful with. We fought for many years to keep this forum from being a commercial. There were many merchants that used that WIP tact, to showoff thier product. ( Not directed at you Conniekat8) Or WIP images, that is what the critique club is for.

Nothing wrong with posting what your working on, modeling, settings, even set design when it has something to do with poser. We can all learn from that. It is also easier to help someone when you can see what they are doing.

So, you'd like to see pictures of me swearing at Poser/the computer/anything in sight, chain smoking, drinking lots of tea or beer, scratching my arse waiting for a render to finish, assembling it in Photoshop only to find I rendered one half of the scene at 3600 x 2400 and the other half at 1600 x 1200 and having to do the smaller bits all over again?

That's a fairly accurate description of how my works progress. :)

As for being annoying, well, you're a cat.  It's in the job description, just ask mine. ;)

Connie - Do we get a WIP on that shortcake, or has it all gone now?

"only to find I rendered one half of the scene at 3600 x 2400 and the other half at 1600 x 1200 and having to do the smaller bits all over again?"

Sam - Please tell me this ain't true!!

Thanks guys and gals!
If I make a model through a WIP... and then if enough people say they want it, and I decide to give it away as a freebie when it's done, does that come too close to being a commercial?

I like working on things that I like and I notice few other people may be interested in having too. Keeps my interest going, gives me new ideas, and it pushes me to up the quality. I figure, in return, I make it a freebie, since it ends up being a sort of a collaborative project...

Darn, I should have asked for beta-testers for the shortcake!!!

No, that is not the same as making a model for sale and showing the WIPs to advertise before it goes to the market. Nothing wrong with the way your doing it.

They're always a learning experience, IMO. I don't even have a problem with commercial WIPs, truth be told. All knowledge shared is knowledge gained.

Keep it up Connie!
