I just want to say THANK YOU for the shoes. I'd missed them but luckily got the link in this thread! They're AWESOME! I can't believe they're free!
Now I get an urge to model some of those split pants G

TG, I would love if you gave us a pair of those split pants :) I found some period hair at PoserPros, Victorian and Ancient Greek work I think. I guess a coconut style could work if you had nothing else. TG, you ever seen those weird modeling masks? Like the lone ranger mask with a veil over the nose/mouth...
Quote - well, in an era where they even put covers on piano legs, pictures might be scarce. Although, and I hate to admit it, there was a lively postcard industry during the Civil War of prawnography (you know what I mean..;), which is why they passed laws against sending such through the mails. You could probably find a lot of reference pics that way..I'm sure they're out there somewhere..;)
You can, though it'll likely require scouring Google Images for "history of pornography" (or prostitution). ;) (no, seriously... that's the only way you'll get to see any of the hose like that). IIRC, the ref. pics posted so far (save one) are of men's leggings... kinda different, in a few subtle aspects here and there. I prolly have a ton of ref. pics printed on Dead Tree, in a coffee-table book titled "Fille d' Joie" - it's a pictoral history of prostitutes, courtesans, and similar ladies of the evening. (sec...) Poking my head around the shelf confirms that yep - I do. May want to hit Amazon for it if you're looking to make for-sale items of victorian-era underthings. /P
Thanks Peng, that's a good idea.
What are split pants?
Thanks TrekkieGrrrl :)
They're free cause they're my practice pieces... In case I ever muster up the courage to become a merchant. shrugs I'm undecided. Hacing to be around for customer service sorta scares me, or maybe I take it too seriously.
I do like it when people find things I make useful :)... it's better payoff then money :)
Eventually, I wanna make a whole victorian outfit, or two... To go with the victorian village collaboration we have going in the 3D modelling forum.

split pants i think are kinda like the ones that look like a skirt when the legs are together.

With a little split up the side of the leg?

Connie, I would not worry about disapointing customers given the quality of work you have demonstrated. My advise is model what you want to because you want to and make it available to others either free or at an affordable price, but make sure you don't put ego into how many sales or how much money result. Then any sales and any income is an unexpected treat.
I think Poser is a valume versus per-unit market... you can rack up a hell of a lot of $5 sales to be honest and if your attitude is that you don't intend to quit your day job just treat any income you get from sales a windfall.
Deal with the customer satisfaction issue by opening a Paypal account and loading in emergancy money so you can offer an instant refund via a gift certificate if anyone is unhappy... easier imagine then trying to process a charge back and an unlikely evenetuality to say the least.
People will by crap if they have thier reasons I think, the key to a satisfied customer is honest and full disclosure in the promos... I don't belive in a hard sell, either the thing is something people want/need when they see it or it isn't -I won't even read hype promo or ertzat J. Perteman catalog mood-setting copy but I always apreciate merchants who show a default Poser render, a wireframe, and are up front about any failings or limitations of the product in their promo.
I have been greatly impressed by vendors who link to high resolution renders and I almost bought something from insomniaworks soley on account of the promo paragraph titled "Bad things about the product:"!
Anyway, you should not worry about the quality of your work, I put you at the very top of modelers with obm890 and only a few others. There are vendors who actually state upfront: caveat emptor, for IRW reasons I am generally not available for product support, please consider this in your purchase. I belive this is contray to RMP TOS but I have seen it, and I have seen people express gratitude for the forth rightness of it.
Thanks Momodot, those are some great pointers :)
Also, thanks a bunch for the compliments :) I am kind of shooting for pretty decent quality models.
Okay, I'm catching on to what split pants are. LOL, I've been learning so much new stuff in the last year or so, it's easy to forget half, and have the other half all jumbled up...
If I manage to get the skirt and flowy things rigging down on my current project, a Wizard robe for Apollo, elaborate victorian stuff should be no problem :) Keep your fingers crossed, I'm going to try rigging it this weekend..

Are the derivitave works from PhilC's clothes making and clothes rigging liscenced for commercial products? They look very ellegant in design.I'm not sure. I have couple of Phil C's products, but I don't think I have this one.
I can group things and use donor CR2os pretty well.
For the wizard robe, I acquired Ajax's Easy Pose Underground 2 system, to help me out with some advanced rigging. I want to have poseable shawl, and I also want the ability to pose the flowy sleeves independently from the arms. And there's skirt too, I kind of don't want to rig it in one swinging bone, the way I've seen skirts rigged, I want more bending ability... in addition to morphs.
We'll see... what happens. At the moment I'm begging couple expert riggers for pointers :)

I have never gotten along with Easy Pose stuff too well but I love body handles for posing clothes.
I wish I knew how to put body handles on the Daz figures for poising breasts and thighs for gravity and pressing against surfaces. I think you could get away with less morphs if you had more body handles, on figures that have them I have used them for scaling as well as other deforming. Sara 1 actually had them for facial expressions and the ears and eyebrows! I don't know why these hair people sell with hundreds of morphs don't use them and I think they would be better than the mags and ERC on joints and muscles on figures... I wonder why they are so under exploited!
Oh, yeah, body handles are one of the things Anton has been suggesting I use, especially as an aid to pose the skirt parts.
I haven't played with body handles, but I think they are just pieces little bit away from the figure, for easy selection and hemping to visualize the movement, and other then that they're just a part of the geometry.
Actually, I'm in the middle of picking Anton's brain for advice on body handles.
I'm hoping my engineering expertise will come in handy in progressing here  and surviving the 48 hour crash course on advanced rigging...

Allrighty then... now that my wizard robe is in beta testing, I have some breathing room to get the hose updated. (boy, did I learn a LOT on that project).
I'll make a few textures to go with the hose as well.
Anyone interested in more textures for my Victorian Shoe freebie? I think I'll try Fitting it to V4 and Aiko as well.

Brilliant model and texturing.
All we need now are some decent victorian/edwardian underwear (bloomers/chemise/corsetry) for V4 modelled on the real thing (as above)?
Victorian/Edwardian hair styles would be nice too... I do so get fed up with all these short, brutal modern unisex cuts!
Anyone? =8-)
If I had some help with rigging and file packing and testing and making promo imagery and writing readme's, I'd be cranking models out a lot faster :(
I'd love to make a line of victorian things. Dresses, suits, more shoes, accessories, hair...
