Ok, I'm installing it. I need emails though. Can you go to my homepage and send me an email?

Seems to work ok. Have only received the welcome to 3D Mailbox email though.
Very easy to set up. Install, launch, go get activation code for the free mailbox. You need to pick an email address that you will be using the mailbox with. Once you have your activation code, enter the code and the email address you registered to get the code. The program opens.
It supports POPS3, so to set up your other emails, go to "Tools" and "Accounts" and if you pick "automatically configure", the program asks you to pick an email account that you have set up in Outlook Express. It will automatically tcopy the settings from that account over to the 3D Mailbox. You do that for each account you want added to 3D Mailbox.
Then you go ahead and use it like you do Outlook Express.
According to the stie FAQ, a watermark is applied to all emails you send if you use the free version. To get rid of the watermark you have to fork out the $30.00. There are no ads though. At least that's what they say.
If you like to keep your email program open for extended periods, I would suggest turning the speaker sound off.
It is very graphic intensive, so not everyone will be able to use this. However if you have a computer that does have the specs, it's pretty fast once it opens up.
Oh and I think there are nudies, according to some of the images on the stie. So not a good thing if you have kids. I haven't seen any nudes, but then again I haven't gotten any mail yet.

I don't know about avatars or importing content. Maybe those features are available in the purchase version, but I doubt it would be in the free one. However, you can pan for different views, it seems to have 360 degree capability, and you can pick the scenes you want to view too. It's actually pretty cool actually.

I believe we are seeing another step on the path to William Gibson's version of cyberspace: 3D objects representing abstract computer operations. The man has prophetic genius alright.
But in this case I think LostinSpaceman is right. It would get tiresome pretty soon and be a resource hog for no particular good reason.
I got your email. The email looks just like any other email. There are no pictures in it. The graphics in the program are purely for your viewing pleasure. Also there is a way to turn off the sound in the program. A simple click of a musical note icon.
For each area of the mailbox... inbox, sent, deleted, trash, unsure and spam, you can pick the 3D image and view that you want to see for that area. Each view is animated. Nothing special happens when you delete or move mail around. The graphics are just there for esthetic view. You don't have a shark leaping out to grab the letter or anything.
I'd suggest downloading it and giving it a try to see if you like it. It's really hard to describe.
I looked in the help, and it shows that you can display 16 avatars at a time, but it doesn't say anything about being able to import your own. However, it might be possible to configure a file to allow you to do that.
EDIT: yes, it is very resource intensive. I agree that it's novelty and I'll probably delete it later today after I've explored it. I like "less is more" and Outlook Express serves the purposes for email just fine. I'm not so much into email that I need all of these graphics in front of me when I read my email.
And there are no nudes. That must be in the purchase one. Just 2 or 3 bikini clad babes, a bartender and a security guard in the free one.

This is the actual size of the watermark that the recipient of your emails receives. Click for full view.
Can you imagine that arriving at a potential employer? LOL

OK, I understand it simply as this: The platform assigns a 3D avatar to each of my incoming email messages. They move around in 3D VR depending on what the choices are for dealing with them.
Uh, yeah, like... Why ? What For ? Is this a more meaningful email processing experience ?
me: "Hello, Avatar of Slimey Dirty Rotten Person's email. Would you like a smelly sock down your throat ?"
email Avatar: "Aaaahh."

They showed this on Attack Of The Show on G4 last week... they said it was loaded with spyware and malware... Even without the spyware it doesn't seem like something I'd use.

Acadia - I hope for you it's not like IncrediMail, cause this program is really cute, easy to instal, but REALLY HARD to uninstal!! It puts files everywhere in your computer, and impossible to get rid of all of them.
Do a search for 3D Mailbox on Google and see what you get. 1: 3D mailbox themselves. Fair enough. 2: 3D Mailbox: Worst. App. Ever. 3: 3D Mailbox: Extremely useless 4: YouTube - 3D Mailbox Trailer 5: Bad Ideas: 3D Mailbox Makes Me Want to Give Up on Life You can see a pattern emerging, here... After having just had the prevously reliable free ZoneAlarm hose my PC to the point where I had to reinstall Windows, I don't think I'll be giving this a spin. I hope it hasn't done any permanent damage, Acadia - we can ill afford to lose you...

I have an uninstall program that forces the uninstallation of hard to get rid of programs, including all folders that are usually left and the registry keys. I had no problem uninstalling it and I did run an adaware and cureit scan after and didn't have any spyware.

hehe, yep! That Cleanse Uninstaller is great. It was a free download at http://giveawayoftheday.com/
One of the more useful programs that they have offered. Between that and CC Cleaner, adaware, cureit and my virus scanner, I keep a pretty clean system.

I guess I owe you a great big thanks for trying it out for me Acadia! My system doesn't have anything but AVG on it at the moment. This is the one that crashed a month or so back because of Roxio's Easy Media Creator 9 not cleanly uninstalling it's previous version before installing itself and I just haven't gotten around to installing my anti-spyware/mallware stuff yet. Glad you had your armour on because, yeah, you're valuable around here!
Awww you guys are sweet!!! :)

Sounds like something that'd be fun for a short time, then would drive me nuts! And that watermark thingy... stares Bleuch! Nick happy IncrediMail user grin

I just found this site today for a free 3D Email program. Has anyone here heard of it or tried it? It looks cute, but do I really want this for my email?
