THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce 6 again with the crashes...

dunedan ( ) posted Sun, 29 July 2007 at 9:38 AM · edited Wed, 07 August 2024 at 8:36 PM

Are there a 100 updates to Bryce6 that I have missed that fix the crashes and texture buggs?
When importing a 2d picture it often crashes and when applying photo textures to say a mountain, then woops everything in the sceen has that texture....I know I'm not alone with these strange glitches, I just dont want to give bryce up quite yet...but it's not being nice :( Hasto be some kind of fix to this right? I just dont understand why Daz bothered releasing Bryce6 without fixing the problems. More problems exist than stated ones too...

What method did you use to import a 2D image...  or apply a photo to a symetrical latice?

I memory serves, this is not a bug it's a problem with the way you are applying the textures.
Brain fog prevents me remembering what you ar doing wrong.

Well I have imported in all the ways possible...the error comes from within texture editor if I go that way to import image and if I imort image with the michelangelo figure for things like 2d objects. I'm not even using phototextures on lattices, I should be thou cause that rocks. Anyhow I tried changing priority of bryce to lower but still have random crashes. I guess I should stpo wining and go back to Bryce 5 wich was more stable :D

Try importing a regular JPG medium size photo/ image-- into the 2D picture labs...

If you are not sure how to.. then ask me....*   I'm sure you do know.. just incase...*

then click on the image , click on the okay check mark...  make sure you see it in the materials Lab's small pre-view window---..   check "okay" ....   and see if you get a 2D surface with your photo/image on main stage...

  • If you see it... then you might want to access what you did before..   why were you crashing?

  • If you do not see it, Try it again..  no go... then something is wrong... check your settings or re install Bryce 6

  • if it crashes,, on a medium size image..  try a smaller size image...  crashed again!  then something is wrong... re install Bryce 6

do this and tell me what happened....

Hehe yeah I do know how to import, but thanx.

The thing is that it works sometimes and sometimes not. But I messed around and I "seem" to get it more often with higher res pictures...somthing around 2000x2000 or higher.

I can open Bryce and as soon as I import the picture so I see it in picture lab everything seems ok, then when I go back to normal view it crashes. Then if I try the same thing again it crashes, then if I take another jpg in same series with same resolution it can work then I take the picture that was crashing and import it it works. It's more than a little random :)

I have tried this test on two other computers with similar results.

Strikes me as a bit weird too when it dosent crash but changes the texture on everything to the imported picture's texture.

I have tried reinstalling Bryce6 (4 times). I tried to adress this issue and others at the Daz forum without any helpfull response. Is there any good way to get a hold of Daz, I dont want to run them up the wall I think it's great they are evolving Bryce into the future but they need to fix some bug before Bryce 7 hit's the fan :D

If you can not bring in a medium size image.. then some thing is wrong....  I was not challenging your knowledge of Bryce.. just wanted to know if a medium size image will crash it...

I don't have that bug...  I do crash Bryce when I try and save a file br6,,  after i made some changes to it..  but thats another subject..   Go to the Daz website.. or go to the help menu in Bryce and click on "Daz technical support"..   sorry I could not help

I have encountered when applying some odd image for a texture, Bryce 6.1 would crash. It is not Bryce (or could be), that is the problem. It is the image itself. I found out if in 32K, 64K, less or other than 16 million, and wrong image scale (512x512 for example), Bryce will crash. Take the image formats and increase to 16 million and "jpg". It will help.

Online Now!

Don't know if this will help, but I have eliminated nearly all my Bryce 6 'saving' crashes by not deleting any textures from the active image texture editor.  I just let the unused images clear out by themselves automatically when they are saved.   The rest of my crashes seemed to have been eliminated by renaming objects with very complex, long names to something shorter.

Yeah, I had this problem too and the long names bit is one of the probs but for me another problem I caused by trying to load an image using a square in that editor which already had an image on it, but since I started always loading a new image using a black unused square - I've had no crashes since.
