Does anyone else here use a Sony mavica camera and if so has anyone tried using Sonys disk adapter that allows you to save your images to a memory stick.

Hi Rjh, Yes I do own a Mavica. However, I don't use the memory stick. That's actually a good idea. That would increase the number of images greatly!! Personally I've been plodding along with a pocket full of diskettes. As I recal the cost of a memory stick to be roughly around $80. US. I'm not sure if it is worth it, I think the memory stick can hold roughly up to 5 meg? That sounds low so lets assume 8 meg. Now many images will I be able to save? Usually I can get at least 25 images/disk. So that equals about 200 pictures at least for an additional $80 or I can just bring 10 diskets. Um, I personally wouldn't bite unless I can save around 300. Do you have any other Sony memory stick camera? If you do then by all means give it a try. Bsteph Bsteph

Hi Again Rjh, Wont the pictures take longer to save when you use the stick adapter? IT seems like it should because it has to go from disk drive to stick adapter. Bsteph

25 shots wow I am only getting from 7- 10 shots at the following settings: fine, 1024X?,jpeg if I switch to BMP mode it is one shot to a disk so that is why i was looking into the memory stick and adaptor. PS the largest stick I can find on the sony site is 64 meg but it is pricey.

PS bsteph what model of mavica are you using I currently have a mvcfd91

Hi RJH, That's why you can't take as many pictures. I am using the older MVC-FD7. It has a slower drive than yours I think and the Max resolution is 640X480. Bsteph

That would explain it all right. I will have to think about whether or not to go with the memory stick.

...I'm using Sony Cybershot DSC-P1 with 64M memory stick. I can shoot about 200-300 1280x960 pics or 60 minutes of mpg-video. Get the stick, its really fast, small and LOT more easier than disks. .n

Thanks for the info Antoonio I think I may take the plunge and spend the 350 on the stick and adaptor.

RJH ( ) posted Mon, 28 May 2001 at 3:33 PM

Well I did it. I took the plunge and am now 378.00 poorer, Bsteph I will let you know if it was worth it in a couple of days after I try it out.

...I bet you are gonna be very happy with your new stick. The stick is not only for taking pics, its really handy for moving data from computer to computer. I use my cam(and the stick) for carrying case for data very often, beats old good diskettes 100/0. .n

I would have been happy with the adapter and stick if it had worked in my camera but it did not. It apperently only works with the newer cameras something to do with the drive type.

...damn. Hopefully you can hand the stick back. (?)

Yes they said they would take it back. Oh well will just have to continue carrying around boxes of disks.
