Subject: Pixel count?

Today I have had a very frustrating time trying to post my second and third images here on r'osity... First it was with the thumb that was to go with an image. The system kept rejecting it, saying "Image width must be between 50 and 200 pixels." Well according to Photoshop it was. I tried to jiggle the pixel count, tried square images, not square...and kept getting the same message. Finally gave up and posted the image with no thumb. Then I tried to post to the Bryce gallery ...ran into same problem with thumb... tried posting without thumb ...this time the system started yelling about 'Images must be between 100 and 4000 pixels wide' Again, according to Photoshop, it was. What am I doing wrong? Also made sure 'save thumbnail' was off in photoshop, as per the notes in the gallery upload screen.

Photoshop5 has buggy headers in the file, save it from another app and try again.

Grimace. Ouch. This 3 D hobby keeps getting more expensive all the time. What application do I need? Something like CorelDraw or one of the other painter programs? Or does someone know a freeware program I can use to open a jpg from photoshop? After shelling out for Poser, Bryce, and a few necessities at the store here....my budget is looking a little sad.

Try Irfanview, it's a great little freeware image viewer and you can use it to convert to different formats. http://www.irfanview.com/ Regards- Lemurtek

The trial version of ACDeeSee works pretty nicely on file conversions and jpg compression, also. It's a free download for the trial version. I don't believe it has a resize function though... might savefrom photoshop at just a touch under 200x200 [say 198x198] before running through ACDC to be safe.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. I DO want to buy CorelDraw eventually, but till then something freeware or shareware to get around the Photoshop header problem is appreciated : ) Might want to include that little tidbit about Photoshop in your newbies column, Iornbear. Save someone from the frustration I went through yesterday with the stupid thumbs : )

You can also download a 30 day evaluation of Paint Shop Pro 7...(I much prefer it for "down and dirty work", to Photoshop.) It can be found at www.jasc.com. Has a great jpeg optimizer function, under file, export to web. Then, there is a 30 day free evaluation of Ulead PhotoImpact 7. It has some really good built in filters, and retail runs about 80 bucks. It, too, has an image optimizer. Problem is, if you are like me, when the evals run out, you most likely will go ahead and buy the product. Ulead is found at www.ulead.com. It is also really good for making websites with your images. Enjoy. Poppi

Yeah, not a bad idea. To tell you the truth, it wouldn't have occured to me - I use Photoshop 4.0 and I've never had that particular problem with it. When 4.0 saves at 200x200, it's generally on the money when I open it in another prog. Must be a 5.0/6.0 bug... er, "feature". ;]

I had the same problem when trying to post a gif for the thumbnail here. Wasn't even as large as 200 x 200. Saved it as a jpg in PS (5.5) instead and then it took it. Have no idea why it didn't like one, but took the other. same size and everything. Oh well.

I use Photoshop 4, 5 and 5.5, both PC and Mac, never had the problem. Try "Saving a copy" as a JPEG, and don't use progressive.
