So I've been using Bryce for about 2 years now, but so often have found that images created with Vue are of a better quality.  I've had a copy of Vue for a while now, but every time I try to use it, it seems very slow and then, usually while attempting to render, it freezes, and I'm forced to shut it off.  Now, when I try it again it always asks me if I want to switch to compatability mode.  So what I'm wondering about is whether or not compatability mode is worth using, and what aspects of Vue are compromised while using it....also, I'm wondering what would help overall to make it run faster.  Do I need more memory perhaps?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Well a gig of ram sure wouldn't hurt.I use the PLE with 512 M and it's slow but it does work.. ...

what version and patch level of Vue are you using and what sort of spec PC are we talking about ?

I'm running 6.5 infinite on a Core2 duo with 2G ram and it seems pretty fast to me.

Compatability mode happens when Vue crashes - I usually say no

It would sound as though Vue has an issue with your video card driver and the OpenGL function. 
There are two things you might try, upgrading your video drivers.  If that does not stop the crash, turn off some of the background features, like Draw Threads, and Preview Mesh. 

Compatibility mode is a safe generic OpenGl, Video Card minimum feature driver, and the your speed will suffere as a result.  But if it works, use it.

The only other advice is to use a Memory Manager to recover the ram that is being lost during processing and in preperation for Rendering.  YOu can find out if this is happinging, by looking at your system resource meters or indicators to find out if Vue is using all of the Ram, until a crash occurs.

You can also use the Administrators Tools, the Event Viewer and see which Vue Module is creating the crash.  

If you are running Vista you will have to change the compatibility mode to Win XP and select Run as An Administrator to get it to work on some systems.
