Subject: P7 Render Window Shows Black When Animating

Terry Mitchell ( ) posted Wed, 15 August 2007 at 8:31 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 11:32 AM

Why when I am animating (using either Firefly or P4 render engines) in P7 (XP OS) does the render view window show only black (but it properly shows the render in progress when rendering still shots)?  Am I missing a setting or something, as P5 always showed each shot as it progressed through an animation (I render .tif files)?

When I run an animation in P7, the rendering happens in a popup window, and the main window isn't even visible under the popup and the leftover pieces of a dialog box!

This screencap shows how it looks in the middle of rendering one frame.

I don't think there's a 'render to new window' main preference,
or at least I didn't set it deliberately.

For me the main problem with 7 is that animations using the P4 renderer
don't work at all.  Every frame is plain black, whether you go to AVI or
separate frames.

Yeah, that's the window I'm talking about - it only shows black when rendering an animation even thhough the final animation files are all OK.

It may have something to do with the 'render in separate process'?

On my computer both settings of that variable work as shown here,
but it seems logical that the separate process might be unable to
"reach back" to the main window in some circumstances.

What are the render Dimensions set at; is it Render to Preview SIze, or something different.  Sometimes when I've the Render Dimensions set to something large, like 4000 x 4000 pixels, my render window is black for a while.  But then it eventually gets to the small area of the scene I'm seeing and renders of that black space.

All settings are for 640X480 size.

@Angelouscuitry - you're rendering animations at 4000x4000 pixels in Poser?! You're brave.

:biggrin: 4048 x 4048 is the largest Texture Poser will load; an easy number to shoot for! :biggrin:
