Oh you don't know how long I have waited to find out if the 40D was a mith or not!!

Thanks for the link - I'm off to check out the prices just to no doubt discover that I still can't afford one!!

The G7 looks really interesting as Canon seem to have ditched the loathsome CADD (Curse by Auto, Delay and Delicate) agreement that have made compacts almost unusable in a manual mode if they had it.

All digital compacts had to be built to CADD standards, meaning Auto everything and if manual settings were included they had to be difficult and unrewarding to use.  Well done Canon for ditching it when they built what from my short trial with it seems to be a very nice piece of kit .

Well, apart from spelling myth wrong, I've now got to go and find nearly £900 for the body only....... but it IS nice!!

It's not my intention to shatter the dream but I guess that if you want a good 1,6 camera and intend to buy one shortly, the 30D, as good as ever, will drop a lot in price soon.
I bought my 350D halfprice  because the 400D was out.

New stuff is always too expensive. Be it graphic cards, quad-core CPU's, the new version of PhotoDrool with the magic "CreateMasterpiece" button.
Wait a while, and the prices will drop.
Or buy a 30D and save enough to get that lens that really will expand your possibilities.

I was reading in "Digital Camera"  that Canon will be bringing out a 50mp  DSLR sometime next year.

DOH! DOH! DOH!

When you say it trice, it must be true.

I feel like an idiot. Excuse: Stressy day, tired, negative mood because of negative colleagues...

Sorry all.

I have browsed the dpreview of the 40D, and it is really a huge step ahead. Even to such a degree that I'm very tempted. Only detail is the investment of some 1250 Euro... ahhh! Very Annoying Tax!
I hate it!

LOL here I only just got my 30D but meh I guess it's a step up from the old 300D I had and when I get something new again I'll make sure to get me a beast like the 1Ds MK II LOL. But for now I'll stick to the body I got and start working on the glass collection 😉 some interesting stuff happening in the camera world out there...

Looks like some great new Kit  I will not be rushing out to buy one just yet!!  I had hoped Canon would produce something better in terms of performance apart from the  amazing 5ps at the 21 million plus!! Why not have a 10fps mode at lower res? And I hope the price is going to be the same here and abroad.. 4 grand is a fair price if that what it turns out to be.. And less than the old camera..

@ Onslow**..."Buying the best rod & line is not going to catch you the biggest fish"**

Agreed.....but being an avid flyfisherman....I can tell you it does make it much more enjoyable though!..LOL!

Seriously...from the specs, the 1dsMKIII appears to be a  simply amazing cam!!!  Aside from all the bells and whistles, what amazes me most is it's ability to process 185MB of data EVERY second!!!

For those that buy this one, you will also need a fairly robust computer...the cam produces 100MB 16 bit TIFF files....where will it end??...LOL

Oh, drooldrooldrooldrool!! The 1DS MKIII looks awesome!!

When is Nikon gonna get off their butts and make a full-frame sensor?!  I'm entirely too invested in Nikon to switch over to Canon so all I can do is sit here and be jealous...

I just heard that the 14bit RAW isn't supported by Adobe yet. So I do hope that they won't limit the support to CS3, if not, all 40D and  1D MkIII buyers are forced to upgrade PS also.
