Subject: Man Shaped Target Silhouette?

Mark@poser ( ) posted Sat, 25 August 2007 at 7:02 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 7:12 PM

Hello,

I may be mistaken, but I thought I saw a man silhouette of the kind used for target practice by police at shooting ranges somewhere as a freebie. Now I can't find it. Does that ring bell with anyone?

Thanks as always.
Mark

It's a rectangle with a map.  A read-me would have taken longer than the prop to make. ~lol~

just as an aside, cops are sometimes taught to shoot at the largest body mass, hence the result is often a dead subject. it would be great if they could shoot to disable, as did arnold in T2, but if they miss, the subject will be on 'em like white on rice.

Idea is, shoot to kill, or you've no business shooting in the first place.

I think there are times when it would be okay to shoot for the legs, eg if the person is weilding a knife and fairly small. I think they should be taught the horses for courses rule and use some of their own judgement.

I think what we're forgetting here is that there's often only reaction time to factor in, not contemplation time.  If you take the time to select a particular part of the body as your target it may be the last decision you ever take.

The trouble is that the legs tend to be the bits moving the fastest.   Also, the police have to try to minimise the danger of hitting innocent bystanders.   The fewer shots they need to fire, to stop their man, the better.    Armed forces have different priorities, as a weight of fire is a tactical advantage in itself.   If the Taleban are keeping their heads down, to avoid the bullets, they can't shoot back and they can't see what the Royal Marines are up to.   Even so, when it comes to firearms practice, the soldiers and Marines must use the same priorities as the police, presumably.

Is it still the case that the FBI use pictures of John Dillinger for their target practice?
