Subject: import error in poz4

Does anyone know why some objects give the error message "no 3d facet info therefore no object was imported"? I've only gotten it about 5% of the time in dxf format and I think once w/3ds but I'm not sure about that one.

I get that every now and then as well. I think I figured out a pattern, if not the solution: Paint Shop Pro's 'Browse' function (thumbnail browser, for those without PSP) will display certain DXF's, yet not others. I've had it read very large DXF's (like 100+ megs - MAN is that ever slow!), and anything in between. Tthe one's that PSP will read, won't open in anything, even the program that created it. Anything it won't read is just fine. Like I said, not a solution, but a good thing for PSP owners to be aware of. Now, can someone tell me why the heck a Paint program would be able to read a DXF if you couldn't edit it? I guess if it read OBJ's and allowed you to generate texture maps, that would be useful. Heck, if it could read ANY 3D format and generate a texture map for it, THAT would be cool. Newc

Be that as it may, I have several models in DXF format that work flawlessy in any 3D program that can read them, including models I made in Infini-D. Yet there are the few that cannot be read by even the program that generated it, even Poser.

I haven't opened them in anything but poser. PSP and Photosop will kill animated gifs if opened outside PSP animation window, they're reduced to the first frame. In general if its not a 2d static image don't open it in these programs. Poser help file says DXF doesn't include any UV map info which explains why I can't texture them. (that had been driving me nuts)but I haven't seen any explanation for the 'facet info' thing.

That basically means the same thing I get, which is "This file contains no recognizable 3D objects", or something similar to that. I've had three errors that mean the same thing: this is not a 3D file.

I got the error from models at the Wiremonger site. There's a post up here with at least three people saying they are happy with them so I don't think it's that simple. I'm sure we're reffering to the same error. It says " this file contains no 3d facet information, therefore no model was imported." I've also had quite a few that wouldn't import at all. I know there's some escoteric secret about inverting the (?) when importing...
