Subject: Turning Off Auto-subscribe to thread

MatrixWorkz ( ) posted Sun, 26 August 2007 at 1:26 PM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 5:03 AM

Can someone tell me where to turn off auto subscribe for threads so I don't have to remember to uncheck the box every time I post? I know it can be done because it's turned off on my other account but I don't remember where the setting is located.

On a thread basis, its right here at the top of the thread where the "reply" "subscribe" links are.

On a forum basis, its where the "top of the forum" "mark all read", etc is

Let me know if you still can't locate it.

Thanks

Oh yeah also on a forum basis you can go to "MY FORUM OPTIONS" and click turn off the "notify" box by the forum(s) you don't want to get notifications on new posts on.

Hrmm... I don't have notify turned on for any forum and I'm not subscribed to any forum and the checkmark still shows up in the "notify me when someone replies" box and has to be manually turned off every time. It default's to unchecked on my LostinSpaceman account. So I know there's a setting somewhere to have it unchecked by default.... or used to be.

Actually you're right it is turned on for this account as well, and yet, I don't get ebot's on threads I've replied to even without unchecking it.  I don't understand what's different about this account and the MatrixWorkz one. All the forum options settings are the same and yet I get ebots on that account and not this one unless I go the extra mile and manually "Subscribe" to a thread, which is fine because I don't need ebot's as often as I check in.

Didn't there used to be a global checkbox for turning e'bots off? I seem to recall turning them off for this account in a global fashion. I guess that's the option I'm looking to turn off on the other account.

Im really not sure if there is anything like a global feature, at least I haven't seen one....all the options I know of,  are all turned off in my forum options and I get nada ebots. I do think its odd that you get ebots on one account and not the other even while all settings on both are the same tho..maybe Stac will have a fix for this in the morning because Id like to stop unchecking that lil box myself..Im here all the time and am everywhere so I really dont need ebots

I have found no way around having to remember to un-check that little box each time I post when I don't need an ebot - I wish were the other way around. I was waiting for the site to settle after the big speed update and just learned to live with it as site stability was the larger issue. Now we have a wonderful site we can get to repair these little things ;)?

Well I definately don't have to uncheck it everytime on this account. I will say that I remember a Turn off all ebot's ability that was there for the old forums and I turned them off back then. The option may have gone away when the new forums came into effect but the effect is still working on this account.

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Mon, 27 August 2007 at 8:24 PM

I cant remember if I get an ebot if I dont uncheck that little box...so Im going to purposely refrain myself from unticking it now....bites fingers..must not untick..must not untick...

I guess I'll just have to live with ebot's on my merchant/freebie distribution account then. Least I don't get em' on this one!

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Tue, 28 August 2007 at 4:06 PM

Ya  know what? I just noticed that I have been getting subscribed to every thread I post to with this account and still no e-bots so it's definately something to do with that no-ebot's setting I clicked on under the old forums. Too bad it doesn't seem to be available anymore to click on.
