Subject: Upgrade versus Free Upgrade

Morgano ( ) posted Thu, 09 August 2007 at 5:35 PM · edited Tue, 12 November 2024 at 9:07 PM

DAZ is encouraging people to buy C5 and then upgrade to C6, when it appears (the 14th?  - that's when the C5 offer ends).   I can get C5Pro for $192.   A bargain, except that I have it already.   I upgraded from C4 Standard to C5Pro before DAZ hoovered up Eovia.   Now there is no indication (that I have seen - delighted to be corrected on this) of how much it may cost to upgrade from C5Pro to C6Pro.   I don't think I have any need for a second licence for Carrara, but it does seem that it may be cheaper to buy Carrara 5 Pro all over again and then upgrade for free, rather than waiting to see how DAZ intends to treat the established customer-base.

rather than waiting to see how DAZ intends to treat the established customer-base.

But that is exactly what you have to do... nobody knows what the deal for "owners" is going to be.
But usualy DAZ does make it a good one for the peeps that have the "old" version.

So just wait and see or take a gamble ... but i think the release is going to be  a month later then the offer that we have now... so no 30 days money back can be used...

Couldn't you also join the Platnimum club for just a month and then get an additional 30% off, plus you get a bunch of cool free stuff. I up graded from C4pro and paid only $113 for C5 pro. All they wanted is a legitimate serial #. You would just be prepaying for C6. They said it would cost over $500 for C6 pro. Yiks!

I am fairly sure I read that DAZ has said that if you already own C5Pro, then there is no advantage to buying C5Pro while on sale if you wanted to upgrade to C6Pro.

I haven't seen/found what the offer will be for existing C5 users to upgrade, but I will be watching that closely, as some day there will be an upgrade from C6 to C7/C8 etc. and that will be a "selling point" for me to upgrade it then.

The consensus for C5 existing users upgrading to C6, is that it will be a nice upgrade price. I can't see it being much more than the introductory sale price has now, or their DL servers would overload with current users trying for the sales, lol. Im just guessing though. 😉

According to the Daz forums, existing owners of Carrara will get a better price upgrading without buying another Carrara 5 license--so I'm waiting.

Hi all,
If you visit DAZ, and do a search for Carrara 6 on the 3D Software page, you'll get to see the relative pricings... new, or upgrade etc.
Carrara 5 Pro to Carrara 6 Pro upgrade is listed at $141.06 with further discount of 17% for Platinum Club.
