I've had this happen once in awhile but not consistently. It always seems to happen with .gif files in my experience but I know the textures you are looking for aren't .gif files. There are a several things to try.(they don't need to be done in order or together - but one of these should do the trick) The first is to re-select the Poser folder v.s. the runtime folder. The next thing to try is choosing "Cancel" during the texture search and allow Carrara/transposer to continue with the process - it won't actually cancel the import, just the texture hunt. (this is the one that I usually do first) Sometimes the texture is actually found but there is a weird loop going on. If the specific texture is actually missing, then you can simply drive to it's location from the shader tree. Finally, try resetting the Carrara preferences - this can fix a bounty of weirdness. Please post back with what worked for you. We'll have it in the archives then!
I hope I'm remembering this write it's been a while(please forgive me if I'm wrong)... m( _ _)m
I don't think I was using Transposer when that happened to me but it sounds like the same kind of problem I encountered once early on when I first got Carrara5Pro. Characters would not load geometries and textures with out putting me through that search for them every time.
I then by sheer luck had one character load without all the needed searching so I opened it's Cr2 and compared it to the others and what I found is that Poser wrote the paths differently in each.
Poser wrote one with " : " and the other " ". One worked and the other gave C5P indigestion. When I changed them in the troubled Cr2's the loading troubles went away.
Now the only problem is that I can't remember which of the two " : " or " " was the one C5P liked at the time. It's been a long time since then.
Sample image of actual paths I found.
I don't know if this helps at all because your problem may be something entirely different but I thought I'd throw this in here just in case. Good luck.
Edit. Forum keeps losing the back slashes when I upload. Errgh.
My brain is just a toy box filled with weird things
Thanks for the responses.
Mark: I'd tried cancelling and then trying to apply the textures manually, but while the geometry came through, I couldn't even go in and add the textures manually -- an "unknown error 0" would happen. Resetting preference is a possiblity, but as you'll see below, I did come upon a solution.
Mylemonblue (though may I call you "face of Mars?"), that's some crazy info, but really good to know. Poser, having been around for about a billion years and apparently not throwing out any of its old code, has some strange quirks. That's one that's really good to know. It doesn't seem to have been my problem, though.
As it turns out, it appears I have to be working in XP as an administrator. I switched to the admin account (which is necessary when working in Poser and attemping to save characters to my library, but had never been an issue in Carrara) and eureka! the textures imported. The fact that Poser requires you to run as an administrator in XP is nearly unforgivable as being logged on as an adminstrator opens you up to viruses, worms, etc. (No admin priviledges means malware can't install itself, unless it's really sophistocated malware.) Though I do run with protection (safe surfing for me!), you can never be too careful.
Anyway, it seems that the mystery is solved. Thanks for the suggestions, though!

Hi, folks --
I've done some searches on the forums and not found an answer, so if someone can help, I'd appreciate it.
I'm working (at this moment) on a Windows XP machine with Poser 6 and C5 Pro; both are updated to their highest revisions.
I've created a figure in Poser 6 -- it's the David character for which I've purchased the high resolution textures. I've saved the Poser scene.
I open Carrara and create a new project. I import the David poser file via transposer. I do not select the "import lights" option, but everything else is kept at its default.
Carrara starts to import the figure, then stops and asks for one of the David texture maps (specifically the "D_HeadMapHi.jpg" file). I navigate to the folder with the map, click open, and Carrara asks for the same file again. Now, I know that Carrara's shader tree requires the map for each shading domain, and that poser models have about a billion shading domains, so playing along, I guide it to this file time and time and time again. It NEVER seems to be finished. (I lost count at 212 times to the same darn file.)
Am I missing something in Poser to help Carrara find the textures? Am I doing something stupid in Carrara? Or is this just a bug in C5P transposer that Daz won't be fixing since C6P has been released? What's the deal? Anyone have any ideas?
Is it going to be possible for me to render a David figure in Carrara?
Thanks in advance for any help.
