Subject: C6 Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

ddaydreams ( ) posted Wed, 29 August 2007 at 2:51 PM · edited Thu, 12 December 2024 at 2:08 PM

Yes just like the annoying kid in the back of car or the donkey in Shreks Carriage. I want to know if we are there yet or is C6 still  FAR FAR AWAY :)

I would also like to know when full specs will be posted.

Oh Yeah, I would also like 500 LBS of 24k Gold

Thanks

yeah, I downloaded it this morning. it works o.k. imports poser7 pz3 files with universe and ground, although AFAICT it's not importing the camera nor light(s) with the file. maybe that's covered in the manual.

Hey We are there:)

At first all I could see was C5 but I did a search in the search box at DAZ  for carrara 6 and then found and bought the 5 to 6 pro upgrade I needed. Will auto download late tonight if the DAZ servers are up to it. Saved me a few bucks to join platinum club first then bought the c6 upgrade.

tried two GI renders with the included content runtime (vickie4, amarseda hair). both renders froze about 20% of the way thru, so I hadda force-quit. other than the head, none of the morph dials for any body parts are showing up. it seems to select all body parts in an hierarchy at once, which is strange, at least compared to poser. e.g. I can't just select the right collar; I hafta select it and all the arm, hand and fingers. "point at" camera for the eyes causes them to roll back into the head, even though the camera is in front of the face.

The Native Poser import for Poser 7 (PC Version) is broken - scenes do not import.

I started downloading late this morning...now it is 8:30pm and it looks like 5.5 hours to go....I can't wait!

I got ahead of myself while waiting today and installed the C6 content and the Render Node...They installed to the DAZ directory, do you think that will be a problem?  C6 actually installed to DAZ;Studio;Content

I saved the download in case I need to istall these after I recieve the C6Pro files...

Is there an order to install the Node, Content, and C6Pro?

Good Night

I did some routine maintenance and C6Pro's working o.k. now. I found out that vickie 4.1 isn't showing any body morphs because they haven't been injected (?), however I'm not finding any delta files in the !Daz folder, nor am I finding any morph injection files in the pose folder that comes with C6Pro. I told the Vise installer (OS X) to install the content (runtime) into the C6Pro folder, but YMMV. in C6Pro, I selected the P7 default runtime and the P4 default runtime (on a remote disk) to see if it would load. they've got a slightly differing way of body part bend, twist and rotate. one uses the yzx rotate fields in the transform screen instead. poser y is carrara z. I've actually read 3 or 4 pages of the manual so far, and it helps quite a bit IMVHO.

When does the free upgrade come in? I bought the C5 pro a month ago. I clicked on the C5pro to C6 Pro upgrade and in the Daz shopping cart I was going to be charged $98. Anyway, I tipped over my shoppig cart an ran out of the store screaming.

I don't think DAZ3D even know if we're there yet!

When I first heard about the release of C6 I immediately registered my version of C5Pro that I'd bought from eovia.  But the details didn't appear on my account so I got in touch. Last contact from support was yesterday without any mention of C6 being available.

Today I logged on to the Daz/Carrara forums to learn that C6 is actually available for purchase and people had already downloaded to start using it.

From my browsing of the forum there are a number of issues...

First up is that there are quite a few people reporting problems using P7 derived files to import into C6Pro.  P6 and Daz Studio appear to be unaffected (in fact, there are murmurs that C6 may even be more integrated with Daz Studio.

Secondly, there was a suggestion that EF were not forthcoming with the SDK for integrating P7 files into C6Pro - this could explain the reason why there are problems.

If you use any of the new features of P7 then any import into C6Pro is doomed to failure.

There appears to be little coordination in the forum - so there are loads of problems and little feedback from Daz/developers on the likely causes.  All the support is coming from those that have downloaded and installed C6.  Meanwhile, there's been no announcement from DAZ on the release or, as the recent communication with support, internal knowledge within the company that it is actually available.

Hmmm!  Methinks that I may have to revert to Poser 6.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since 3-frontier won't make the SDK avaialble to Daz there will never be a Poser/Carrara link up again.  I think that all Poser figure exports will have to be done with Daz Studio in the future.

I'd be interested if that wasn't the case, but I understand that there is a new version of Studio that came out this week to accommodate Poser exports.

I was just to Daz and I don't see any options to buy Carrara 6 yet, just the Carrara 5-6 upgrade offer.  Since I don't want to buy another version of 5 to get 6 I'll wait until the offer the upgrade from Carrara 5 to Carrara six for those of us who didn't buy Carrara from Daz.

It is now 5:30am and everything is done downloading!  Time to install...It looks like there is a tutorial that came with my C6Pro, it will probably help answer alot of questions, once installed.

Notefinger, If you go to your DAZ account section => available downloads, you should see it there. Mark

notefinger ( ) posted Thu, 30 August 2007 at 10:34 AM

Nope, didn't show up in avaiable downloads. C6pro is in my shopping cart but I didn't go all the way to purchacing it 'cause of the $98 pirce tag.

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Thu, 30 August 2007 at 11:29 AM

I don't keep up on the DAZ stuff concerning marketing. But, it sounds like a phone call may be in order. :-/

When I first heard about the imminent release of C6 I went and looked at the Daz site for more information. There was concern that there wasn't going to be a C6standard. At the moment this seems to be the case as there are no options to buy the standard version (and the link to 'Transposer for Carrara 6' refers to Carrara 5!) Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for confirmation from DAZ support on the upgrade price! Ho, hum!

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Thu, 30 August 2007 at 11:43 AM

Hi Andrewriley, I do remember reading a marketing blurb that said the Pro version would be released first with the standard verson coming later. But, it didn't say how much later. I can't imagine that it would be that far in the future though. Mark

FeatherDrop ( ) posted Thu, 30 August 2007 at 12:40 PM

The real concern that I had was about how DAZ viewed Carrara Pro purchases from eovia and, having registered, what the upgrade path would be. I have yet to receive any contact from DAZ support that the upgrade is available (which we all now know is available but DAZ support haven't been told!) Also, I'd stopped using C5Pro as I'd upgraded to Poser7 and there were issues with newer Daz products such as Victoria 4. So I was looking forward to the new version of Carrara assuming that P7 would naturally be supported. At the moment the situation is unclear (and I've replied to Daz support requesting clarification). Meanwhile, I thought it would be useful to feedback to this forum the chaos that was being experienced in the Daz forum. It also provides feedback to Poser 7 users on the potential pitfall. If, like me, Poser users also have version 6 then there is a fallback position but there doesn't appear to be a long term future for users of both Poser and Carrara, especially for continued upgrades.

Tomsde ( ) posted Thu, 30 August 2007 at 1:02 PM

The upgrade price to Carrara Pro 7 isn't prohibitive, comparatively speaking, but I'd like to know for certain if there is going to be a "standard" version so I don't miss the sale price.

notefinger ( ) posted Thu, 30 August 2007 at 2:41 PM

I wonder if Daz is notifying folks  in batches so there isn't a big run of people trying to download Carrara all at once. People with last names from A to G will be notified first etc. Or by age. Or maybe by hair color..

Kathye ( ) posted Fri, 31 August 2007 at 5:18 AM

Notefinger is right, my email came on 29th October specifically saying that they were emailing in batches so that the servers don't run into the kind of problems they had with other upgrades and masses of people logging in at once.  You know I feel kind of sorry for Daz just because they're customers seem to complain whatever happens...  everyone downloads on the same day and complains the downloads are slow, phased downloads and people complain it's not fair.

Perhaps it is alphabetical, my surname begins with E.  Perhaps it's location, being in the UK I was able to get my downloads started before the rush as soon as I got up while many in the US would be asleep.

I'm not complaining, as such, just drawing peoples attention to the possible incompatibility of C6Pro with P7. However, it has to be said that I contacted Daz support on Aug 10th requesting confirmation of the price and release date of the upgrade to C6Pro. I've had numerous replies since then but none that either provide the upgrade price or the release plans. Let me ask - how would you feel if you'd asked somebody a direct question that they failed to answer and then learnt that they new the answer all along?

Tomsde ( ) posted Fri, 31 August 2007 at 1:22 PM

Apparently from what I read in the Daz Forum, Daz Studio scenes will sucessfully import into C6, so if you set your scene up in Studio and then import it, it should be okay.

I've heard various reports of people not being able to open CR2s, so I don't know where things are with that.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Fri, 31 August 2007 at 1:35 PM

andrew, my experience with the techs as daz is that c6pro is so new, not all of 'em are up to speed on it, even now. I would tend to forgive 'em if they erred in some way, although dan will need to step in there and make sure they're all up to speed ASAP IMVHO.

notefinger ( ) posted Fri, 31 August 2007 at 6:08 PM

To make life better for the Carrara users and Daz, may I make a suggestion for when they launch C7. Send out an email telling everybody it's here and that  an email will go out in a few days letting us know when it's our time to download the program. Explain the situation. How much have their servers and phone lines been overload with all the emails and calls asking about when are we going to get ours

FeatherDrop ( ) posted Sat, 01 September 2007 at 5:30 AM

Just gone to the Daz web site to find a general announcement at the bottom of the page that C6Pro is now available. However, repsonse from the site (11am UK time Saturday) is pretty poor.
