Subject: How Do I Create a Starfield in Carrara

Tomsde ( ) posted Thu, 30 August 2007 at 11:17 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 12:36 PM

I was looking for a preset in Carrara 5 Standard for a starfield but I couldn't find any.  How do I create a space scene/ starfield in Carrara.

You help is greatly appreciated!

If you don't see any stars on your object (ie. a vertical plane), increase the Blend setting some.

Is there some way of adding the shader to the sky itself?

The only way to add it to the sky is by using this plug-in. It has some nice extra features for the horizon and such if you are doing terrestrial scenes. Mark

Does it work with Carrara 6 Pro?

I found the answer on the other thread...

hensteph what have you found out?  Are these plugins C6 compatible.

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Fri, 31 August 2007 at 2:11 PM

DCG (see post in this fourm) just uploaded their complete set of plug-ins for C6. So, yes they are compatible at this point. One note, they are listed as Beta plug-ins because the Software Dev Kit cam out just days before the C6 release. Eric is super quick at fixing any compatibility issues if any are found.

I made a quick space scene at http://www.shonner.com/drafts/space_scene.car in Carrara Pro 5 that has a space backdrop with a low-budget space tram.  The lights only shine on certain objects (sky or vehicle).  I'm sure I've left out something important though.  But you'll get the idea of making a space scene here.

Another way I have managed to do it is by using one of the space scenes withing Carrara, and deleting everything but the outermost sphere.  It has a pretty good starfield texture on it, and I have used it for some scenes here and there with pretty good results.
