Subject: Question - Exporting

How do I export to an .OBJ and have the resulting export be 1 object. In Poser 3 this was no problem, but I don't see a way to do this in Poser 4. It was real nice of MC to include Painter 3D with P4 but not if I can't export as one entire object. Thanks in advance. Roy Owen

Roy, that's a problem that's been raised before, and I'm not sure anyone's found an easy solution. I don't have Poser in front of me right now, but something that might be worth trying is exporting a figure as a .DXF, then importing it, then exporting it as an .OBJ. I just don't recall whether or not .DXFs retain their hierarchies... - Jim

Changing to a different format reassigns the texture coordinates. The DXF you import and export as an OBJ will have different texture coords than the original OBJ. Besides, DXF doesn't support UV mapping, if I recall, I could be wrong. If you still have P3 loaded, export your P4 figure as an OBJ, then import it into P3, then out again as a whole. Have you tried just loading the original P4 model straight out of the Geometries folder, or is this concerning a CR2 that didn't include the original mesh?

As a last recourse, you could just take the exported .obj into a text editor and remove all of the 'g' lines except the first one. You might want to change the text in the first 'g' line so that is a better name for the mesh. Example: old - g hip new - g RobotModel

Sorry that's www.3dvision03.freeserve.co.uk/ You'd think I would know that by now...
