Subject: Free Medicl Furniture

Niles ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2007 at 1:18 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 2:06 PM

There is some free medical furniture in the free stuff, but it is DAZ. Is there some way or someone that can convert it Poser and repost... with the creators permission?
I have been looking for medical items for an upcoming project and  these look perfect.
We could use more Quality medical props, for a clinic or in the old days they called it the Dr. Office.

Somehow I doubt that Daz would give permission for a repost of their property. However, the conversion should be easy. Just find the furniture obj. files. Import them into Poser with nothing checked in the import dialogue. Apply textures if needed. There will be no moving parts, but do you really need moving parts?

It does not belong to Daz, and I did not see Obj.file. I do not have DS installed, or would give it a try.

Here is the link to the items being talked about.  They are not Daz items, they are freebies created for use in DAZ|Studio.

I have DAZ|Studio, but opened it once and closed it because I had no idea what to do with the interface.

Can this conversion be done inside DAZ|Studio and exported as an .obj file or do you need a modelling program to convert? If it's a matter of just using DAZ|Studio to export as an .obj file, I can give it a try and then seek the creator's permission to give it to you.

You can export a prop from Daz as an object file. File/Export/wavefront object. I'm not sure how it handles the textures. If it doesn't give you the option of saving the textures to a new folder, you'll need to track them down.

Sorry, I tried :(

I had to download the newest version because mine was out-of-date. I did that and installed it. I unzipped the medical file package and put the folder and contents in the props file inside DAZ folde as instructed.

However when I double click one of the images inside Daz, I get a message saying "one or more of the files can't be found" and all that shows up are crossed lines.  I tried all of the images in the package and got the same result.

I saw that there is something called "faeries" in that props folder and tried opening those images. Those opened no problem.

I'm not sure if the problem is due to a spelling error  IE: probs instead of props,  inside the files scripts  (some of the words for "prop" in the readme file say "probs" which is where it told me to put the unzipped folder)

Also, the readme addresses derivatives of the contents

Quote - Product Copyright: This set can be used for privat and commerical use, but the original set and all derived sets  have to stay free and shall never been sold (I hate the idea that I have to pay for my own work !)

All I asks for is, that if you have a new texture or an interesting expansion, please mail it to me, so that I can use it too.
Thanks in advance.

I would think that a different format IE: .obj was a derivative, so redistributing it would be ok, so long as I sent him a copy of the .obj files as requested.

Anyway, if someone can help me with this error message. I tried looking in the .daz folders using "notepad", but it looks encripted, or at least most of it does.  Saw the odd word but nothing coherent.

Cal at WG3D.COM has a medical bed and table in his current set of free downloads.
I think he has other related items as well.

And Geralday has a couple of science-lab scenes, which may or may not look
'hospitalish' enough for your purposes.

Oh...I thought this was Medici furniture, from the Rennaisance..;) sorry..;)

I seem to remember it might have been Awful Soul who at least had a wheelchair, but I could be wrong. I know I've seen a whole patient room, but it's been years...was in Freebies if I remember.

Could be that Nance is actually looking for Medici Medical furniture,
such as Iron Maidens, Racks, and Cat o'Nine Tails, all used in the
performance of Heresyectomy surgery.

I'm in touch with atoxic about the issue with the files and have linked him to this thread.  He gave me a suggestion to try but that didn't work. I think he's sending me a new file.

If I ever get this sorted out I'll get these converted!

In the meantime back to my CSI Miami marathon.

Niles, I haven't been able to get these files to open in Daz for some reason. Atoxic offered to send me the files as props. I have given him the link to your contact page and asked if he could send them directly to you as you were the one requesting them. Hopefully he will be in touch with you soon.

Perhaps you can PM him with your email address?

Thanks. I sent that to Atoxic.  Maybe the reason the items work on his computer is because he has those geometry files and we don't.

Just an update. Atoxic is going to rework the package and then release it again. He said he will let me know when the new one is released.

Wel,, he uploaded another package and I downloaded it again.  '

I tried using the new package and I get the following:

  1. Newer version of program used to create the files.  My version of Daz was the newest version. But I had to go and download it and install it again before it would recognize the files.

  2. I'm asked to locate the material files.

  3. After all that I still get a message saying one or more files can't be found, and nothing appears in the scene.

Perhaps someone who has DAZStudio and actually knows what they are doing it can try converting these files for Niles.

Also, if you have DAZ|Studio, maybe you can help Atoxic Beta Text and troubleshoot the problem.  I don't know Daz|Studio beyond clicking an icon and having nothing happen because this is the first time I've actually tried using it.

Here is his PM
