Logged on to get my emails and got one from DAZ announcing that C6 Standard is available - and I've just checked for it in the store. Most of the issues that I have seen are regarding the interaction with Poser6/7. It seems that there my be quite a few issues using P7 files but P6 is better supported (Transposer also appears to be a separate product now rather than bundled as with C5Pro). At the moment I'm in the process of reinstalling Poser 6 and finding that I'm having to recreate scenes originated in Poser 7. Until that's done, I'm going to have to hold off playing with C6Pro.
Actually, C6 Standard is out: http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/catmain/-/?cat=331 If you'd like to see a comparison between C6 Standards and Pro (plus a couple of other softwares) go here: http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/software/carrara/-/comparison? The UI between Standard and Pro is the same. It's just what's included that is different. And bugs should be the same although they are getting fixed pretty quickly from what I can see. Mark
A couple minor interface changes - nothing major at all. Bones are a little different to handle but perform better now. Hair is a new interface and also has shader controls specifically for styling. Obviously, the claim-to-fame is the handling of Poser/DAZ content directly from within Carrara so no program hopping is required. If you do much with Poser, than C6 really is a must. Lot's of little speed improvements and cool stuff like the ocean primitive, faster blurry reflections, absorbtion. Personally, I'd have gotten it just for the Hair module alone since you can do so much more than just hair with it. The hair shader controls create very realistic anisotriopic hightlights. (you know, the way hair has highlights in bands) It's pretty sweet. I know for a fact that the programmers are aggressively fixing post release bugs so the next maintainence release ought to make this pretty solid.
Except for the new functions (poser-figure support, hair, etc) the interface looks exactly the same. no major changes that I've hit so far. Expect the same performance on what you already have. Some fancy render options like blurry reflections have been retooled so they render much faster (haven't tested this but they are said to be usable now). The Poser content is a BIG change, and there are some growing pains but it would be familiar to anyone who's used Carrara and Poser before.
DAZ seems to have changed their policy on Transposer. Although it hasn't been updated there is now a version offered to C6P upgraders who had already paid for it in C5P. It will only ever support Poser6 and below, so it's understandable why they aren't trumpetting its release. Check the DAZ forums for more info. IMO, it should be considered as a begrudged compromise for people who need to continue to pose in Poser, and you should not expect much support for it in the future.
The hair is incredible. It's a new kind of spline modeller that reacts to physics, gravity, and collisions. Often renders faster than the more complex Poser prop hair because it doesn't rely on transparent textures. I'm learning to animate it now and am extremely satisfied.

Carrara is very nice for titling. Done one or two myself... ;-) Vue is a sweet program - I love working with it. However, Carrara will give you the kind of options you need for what you outlined, plus it has a faster render engine. The G and Z buffers are easier to use also. I personally use the UV gbuffers to add lights/color adjustments in post when doing video quite frequently.

Hi all,
Unless I missed something I thought only C6 Std was available. Am I correct? If C6 Pro is out, can someone shed some light on how good it is compared to C5 Pro (which I have). Mostly in reference to bugs, UI, etc...
Thanks
