Subject: Sorting entries in the browser

Can this be done? The only solution I've found is deleting the infos.txt file in the category's folder on the hd and then selecting update folder from within C6's browser. Only then will it arrange the entries alphabetically. Without deleting infos.txt,  the broswer options updating folder and create index file don't do anything which seems to make both of those options pointless imo. The list to the left of the browser (Sky, landscapes, landscapes2 etc.) doesn't seem customizeable at all and appears to be hardwired by the developers in a way that made sense to them but seems a mess to me. I created a directory for my own scenes and it shows up at the bottom of the list and I'd prefer it to be first in the list. Hope I'm making sense. Any suggestions or hacks would be appreciated. This went unanswered over at DAZ so maybe that is my answer.

Hi John, Yeah, I've poked around to reorganize the browser and haven't found a way to do it. The update folder works when you add content to it from the outside of Carrara instead of from within the program. The alphabetical issue I don't know about - everything automatically sorts correctly when I add content here. :0/ Mark

Thanks for responding, Mark. I conducted a little experiment (I never learn!) and what I did was search for all "infos.txt" files and delete them. Apparently these are generated when you choose "create index files" from the browser. With these files gone, everything sorts on-the-fly as it should now. It seems once I create an index file, all entries are frozen in their current order and no further sorting is possible. All subsequent additions to the browser category will be added to the end of all other entries regardless of it's sorting position. Weird. The only reference to the list on the left hand side of the browser (Sky, Landscapes etc.) is in Carrara.Priv so maybe there's an answer there for that. Maybe some cut and paste will fix things.

Update: this is suspected as a bug and has being reported (not by me). Apparently it only affects PC since you haven't experienced the problem and are on Mac right?

Ah, the joy of bug hunting. Yes, the Mac seems to be ok on this one. Yep, I just saw this one get posted.

I shot myself in the foot by deleting those files because now I have several headings in the browser named "basic" instead of Basic Clouds, Basic Plants etc.  LOL. Fortunately the files can be restored.
