Subject: Layers Keep Trading Objects!

BrianG ( ) posted Tue, 04 September 2007 at 9:52 AM · edited Sat, 10 August 2024 at 5:56 AM

Hey everyone, I'm using Vue 6 Studio Pro on a MacPro with 16 gigs of Ram. SET UP: I've created a scene with a variety of plants, and rocks. I've created a layer for each type of object (i.e., a layer for Oak Trees, a layer for crawling bushes, a layer for rocks, etc.) PROBLEM After leaving and re-entering Vue (mostly after a application crash, but sometimes after a manual exit), the objects I placed on individual layers, I find have left those layers and are co-habitating with all the other objects in another layer (somestimes all on the same layer, sometimes mixed on several layers; sort of like a dorm party). Often when I try to reorganize the objects the layers seem to allow only a certain number of objects or grouped objects to occupy them. If I excede the number, Vue shifts objects to the next layer down the stack. QUESTION: Does anyone have a clue why this happens, and how I can avoid it? Thanks, Brian

Wow - never heard of this problem.  Does it happen with all files, or just one file?  A few times, I've had an item seleted and then opened a dialog box and the object jumped to another layer, but it hasn't happened since the last patch.  I'd contact e-on and let them know.

Peggy, I guess it could be considered "all" files because I have been forced to start from scratch several times. But as long as the system doesn't crash, I save under a new name as I significantly progress. Since I purchased Vue 6, I've only been working on this one project and this one scene. I have contacted e-on about this. I've also encountered the unintentional pollination. It seems to happen when I try to select different layers or objects using my wacom pen. When I use my trackball or mouse it doesn't happen. Thanks Brian

Do you save your work often ? The latest patch should help with objects jumping form one layer to another. Also depends how you save your files. If your saved files are not in one folder this can cause a redirect problem with in the program often within the program coding. Contact E-On

In the begining I felt I was saving it fairly often, but definitely after the last crash, I save it after every keystroke (slight exaggeration). I place an object; I save. I scale it and move it; I save. before and after every preview render I save. It's getting to the point where I'm saving more than working, but still the layer shuffle happens.

Layer shuffle happens to me too but I'm used to it now.... One thing I do that helps is whenever I have a bunch boolean groups I bake them to polygons., it keeps stuff from jumping around. If that makes sense..

Deselect your active layer before you select the next layer by clicking on a blank area of the layer box. This solved the migrating objects issue for me.

Thanks, that prevents cross pollination (my term), but has no effect on relaunching Vue to find all the objects have moved to another layer leaving their original layers empty. I'm waiting for an answer from e-on.
