THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: model question please

Moonbow ( ) posted Mon, 10 September 2007 at 8:51 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 12:18 PM

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone might know where I might be able to get a model of a train engine that can be loaded into Bryce please?
I have searched all over with no luck.
Thank you in advance,

Moonbow

moonbow, there are plenty out there, don't forget bryce can import obj and 3ds files, try somewhere like 3dcafe or turbosquid.

Or you can wait until the bryster finished his flying scotsman.....

There is a free locomotive in the freebie DAZ archive here: http://free.daz3d.com/free_weekly/archive_list.php You need to be logged in at DAZ to be able to access the freebie archive. Once there, click the Free Model Archive link, and the train will be on page 2. Run the installer and install to a folder of your choice. The .obj will be in runtime->geometries->Carmen0307->Train, you can import that to Bryce. Textures are in runtime->textures->Carmen0307->Train. To work out what .jpg's go on what part of the mesh, open the .pp2 file in runtime->libraries->props->Carmen0307 in notepad (or whatever you use) and see what material group gets what .jpg For ease they are (using the select Mesh tool in Bryce): train_loco               train_a.jpg train_body              train_b.jpg train_car_body      train_c.jpg train_part                train_d.jpg train_wheel_A       train_d.jpg train_wheel_B       train_e.jpg

I've attached a pic of it imported and rendered in Bryce6 so you can see if it is what you want.

Hope it helps! :)

Thank you both Gog and Raven! I am always happy with how much support there is in this forum.
Raven, that looks exactly like what I have been looking for. Thank you for giving me a link to Daz's free stuff archive. I looked all over the site yesterday and couldn't find it. I really appreciate you not only finding it, but loading it and rendering it and posting which jpg's go on which part!

Hugs

Try this address. It doesn't work with Internet Explorer. You need to use firefox.

Thank you electroglyph :-) They have some really nice models there. Now I just need to figure out how to texture them. The one Raven pointed me to is great too, and it has jpgs for each part of the train, but I am embarresed to admit that I don't remember how to use those in Bryce :-(

I appreciate all the help you ll have given me!

There is one at 3DC by Harrison2.  It's called H2Locomotive.  Just do a search for Harrison2 in the Bryce Freestuff.

I just realised the most simple way to get the DAZ train into Bryce, install it to DAZ|Studio and use the DAZ|Studio button in Bryce!
Doh! :)
