I leave on saturday morning for a week, and earlier today, whilst ranging my equipment, I dropped my camera. I was quite mad, and called myself names I would never ever dare to use for someone else.
Nothing worked anymore -the damge inside was visible- and so I went to the shop and they told me it was a hopeless case. And that luckily there wasn't a lens on it, or that would have been mortally wounded also.

It's not extremely dramatic as I do have an insurance and my agent came later today and assured me I would get a good part of my money back, but it's still a stupid coincidence.
So tomorrow I'll go back to the store, and get another one.
Why didn't I pay more attention?

Did any of you ever drop a camera or so?

For these types of accident, it is good to take an insurance, although costs a lot of money.
One day, my camera fell down, the lens for below, fortunately, was that one is broken ( my last 75-200mm).  I have insulted myself for all names, and not of beautiful roses LOL...

I am sure this one happens to other persons and profesionnal too, and the error is human...

I hope this accident will be only bad memory and you should recover your equipment very quickly :)

I dropped one of mine in a Florida canal while trying to get a photo of an aligator, when it suddenly moved and startled me. Like yours, it was a hopeless case after fishing out of the water. :crying: I always use a handstrap now. Sorry to hear about your accident.

Hopefully this'll work out ok for you...... thankfully when I banged my 5 year old Fuji 4900 off the wall I ended up with an insurance replacement Fuji 9600.... more than a suitable upgrade.  Still sad about the old one though, it served me well :-(

Now heres a story of horror.

In my days of having my own business as a wedding and portrait photographer I shot a wedding using my Bronica 6 x 6 format.

There is a focusing screen held in place by a couple of clips.What I hadn't realised is that when cleaning the camera the focusing screen clips moved slightly and the screen was loose and raised itself slightly.I never noticed when shooting the wedding that anything was wrong but the result was that the camera was not focusing exactly and when I got the results about 20 shots were out of focus.Fortunately that day it poured with rain and I had to shoot a lot of the wedding indoors using a wide angle lens with greater depth of field so on the group shots I just about got away with it.

I have to say it was my wife who calmed me down.Whilst heading for the garage to throw a noose over a beam my wife told me to stay rational.Rational for Christ sake when I had just screwed up a girls wedding.

She made me lay out all the shots from the wedding to see what we could class as acceptable.It was then that I noticed it was mostly the couple shots where I had using a 150mm lens that the out of focus was really noticeable.

So with my bowels feeling like everything was about to pour out I went to the bride and groom and explained what had happened.The family were extremely understanding and on the agreement that I purchased the bride a new bouquet we done a reshoot on the lost images.

A few months after the wedding the family booked me to do the sisters wedding.I dreaded the thought of it.On the evening before the wedding I was carrying my equipment downstairs and dropped the camera and got to the bottom of the stairs and just stared at the mess of bits on the floor.I used the entire spectrum of swear words to vent my feelings.

I managed to phone round friends and gather enough equipment for the wedding.On the day I was so nervous even the bride noticed at the house when I started the shoot.I said having had problems on her sisters shoot I was a bit nervous,she never knew how bad.

The day went well and the photos were great.The family made a big fuss of me and recommended me to many other brides to be.

All was well in the end but I will never forget those weddings.

I have a story as well. But I don't broke my camera but my flashgun. We went to the ZOO a time ago, a place nearby where I live. We had some days very bad weather with a lot of rain, and that day that we went out was a perfect sunny day. So we parked our car and we walked with our things to the entrance. My husband want to make a shorter way....so not following the path. So we went over the grass and goes a hill down. Not knowing that there was a lot of mud after all the rain we had. So you can guessing I think.....it was so slippery that I fell down with my butt on the ground like a child that went in to the kinder garden. I tried to protect my camera and my brand new lens the 70-200mm F/ 2.8L USM. Because I want to keep it tight against my body my flashgun broke. So it was not nice at all. But I was so happy that the rest of my gear was still okay. Only my trouser was full of mud which was not so nice if you want to visit the ZOO!!  But after all, I had still a lovely day even with my trouser full of mud !! And yes I have an special insurance for it. I find it a must, because if you went out with all your gear it is a real fortune I can tell.

Tip:

Don't put your camera on a table/cupboard/desk or wherever you want to drop it.....with the Camera NECK STRAP hanging down, it is to dangerous that somebody that comes near "or yourself" hang in there with a arm or hand and pull it down.
I saw that many often here at my place, not by me, I am always careful.... but by someone else....its very very risky.....

so keep that in mind
