Subject: Would this spec be good for Poser 7?

Hi all - I'm thinking of buying a new PC and was wondering what you though of this spec for use with Poser 7 (and a bit of gaming)...   www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php   (I'd go for 4GB of RAM and a 64 bit version of Vista so that the 4 GB would be usable...). Any comments, thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated!

It's pretty much similar to mine, except I have 8Gig RAM and a 8600GT instead of the 8800.

Poser 7 will run just fine on that but if you can afford it I'd go for more RAM, you could maybe offset it by dropping the 8800 to an 8600 as Poser doesn't utilize the extras on the 8800 and the 8600 is still DX10 compliant for your gaming!

Cool, many thanks for replying - it's very reassuring to know I'm thinking along the right lines! (and that the basic configuration is likely to suit poser 7).

8 GB of ram does sound like a very attractive idea too... :)

Seems like a fine machine to me, although I'm not terribly fond of Abit motherboards.  Overall it looks like a good bargain.

To the Fixer:what Os you have installed for use more Ram than 2-3 GB?
Working with Poser,Vue Carrara?

martial: I'm using Vista Ultimate 64 so I get pretty much full use of all the available RAM.

Poser of course doesn't use the extra because it's a 32 bit application.

I use Vue6Inf for rendering and that is a 64 bit version so that can use all the RAM I can throw at it! [LOL].

*No, it's not necessary to have ultimate!

Ultimate gives enhanced security features like the "Bitlocker drive encryption" which I wanted!

Vista Home 64 would do just as well if you don't need the enhancements of Ultimate, of course you could always go XP64 but as things are moving to Vista I'd go with that!

Don't believe all the horror stories you might have read about Vista, there are a few odd things going on but on the whole I don't find it that bad!
