Subject: import my own background

Is it possible for me to import a background image that I've saved as a jpeg or bitmap and then render a figure over it?

You can use the "Camera Backdrop" option or you can stick a picture on an alpha plane.
If using the plane, might be an idea [depending on what you want] to use it as a billboard, that way it always faces the camera!

Try this - works pretty well with digital camera photos...

It's a simple to follow tutorial for Vue 5 infinite (maybe higher) which shows how to use single photographs within Vue to make backgrounds (just like you ask) and with matching IBL lighting.

Full easy to follow instructions are in the read me and credits for some of the original concepts.
