Can someone please tell me what's going on with my trees.  These are trees being painted into an eco system and for what ever reason turn into this mess.  As you can see from the pict there are some that are normal and most that are distorted.

Using the lastest version of Vue 6 Inf.

I wish I knew.  It happens to me also.  You might want to report it to VUE along with your image to show whats going on.

What tree is it?

its the standard rural maple.

I think I found a fix for it.  I had to save a new maple species to the plant library and then replace the trees in my ecosystem with the new species.

Althought it's odd, I think it looks cool.  I would love to know how to generate that effect

Normally this look is a sign that the hooking point of the leaf materials are off centered. And indeed the default rural maple has a slightly off centered hooking point there. BUT, not such much that it would end in this look I would say. My guess is still, something went wrong with that hooking point. Could it be for example, that you worked on he leaf material after using it in the eco?

What an appropriate response.  :)

LOL! That scared tree comment is a scream! :)
I've never had that happen. Are you using the trees that came with your version of Vue? I've heard using trees from an older version can cause problems, although not like this.
The alpha mats looked stretched and I don't think that has anything to do with the hooking point.
