Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 4:48 pm)
I like Gareee's image. Kind of a fantasy toony dragon.
Here are my ideas, mostly morph stuff.
A dial that can make the dragon toony to realistic, kinda like with Aiko or Hiro
A dial that can make the wings larger to smaller
A dial that can make the tail short to long (use easy pose to get it really swingin')
A dial that can make the hands and feet large to small
A dial that can make the claws long to short and even turn them off
A dial that can turn off the horns or make them big and scary
A posable tongue and eyes
As much as I admire the DAZ Mil Dragon II it's just too big, too heavy and too scary. I like the Hatchling much better esp with what Gareee contributed to make it more lovable!!
Thanks much.......
I'll go away now......

Most of those dials would have to be made such they are adjusting the scale of each limb they affect. They can't be done with just morphing, otherwise, the joints will get all out of wack. I'll most likely get someone else to do the rigging cause I hate rigging in Poser :S . That's why I made the auto-adjust rig feature in Blacksmith3D-Suite so I could it would automatically adjust the rig to fit a heavily morphed character.
One of the problems with the Mil dragon is that the 'extras' are all add on conforming figures (like the tail end type). Would it not have been better to use a body part with alternate geometry so that this type of fitting and morphing concern would be non-existent? But couldn't the things mentioned by RAMWolff be covered with FBM type dials?

I'd just like someone to take on any of Michael Whelan's dragon art! :D

Yea, Michaels Dragon in that image is one I cherish. I think it's one dragon I would love to have for my runtime!!

I like Ramwolff's ideas using the dials....
i'd like to see some nice expressions... and a very versitile tongue - in, out, up, down, side to side - is it possible to "roll" a tongue? (get yer minds outta the gutters LOL), tip movements... maybe a multi-jointed tongue? 2 joints should do it.. "tip" and "middle" and then whatever keeps the silly tongue inside the head
and buck teeth. =D
yep. buckteeth on a dragon (or the possibility of it LOL)
sounds like an awesome project, konan.... and while i dont have your ultimate dragon 1, i wouldnt mind getting my hands on it - and the second one when you're finished! =D
Rarer than a hairy egg and madder than a box of frogs....

Hi to my fellow Pern fans. I too love dragons and wonder at the artwork on the covers. I love the cover of the 'Master Harper of pern" I think that is great.
I am trying to learn 3d modelling to recreate a 3d version of my atavar - *"Kentrai, The oldest dragon in the universe" * Any info is greatfully accepted.
*If I can get that going I hope to do some Pern style dragons but they will be a looong way away...sorry. Jen
I do think you will have an adoring fan base with pernese style dragons, they are really classy. Go carefully with copyright though!
I have some books and the game at home (I am at work between calls) I will try upload you some pics over the next few days if you like.
Are you familiar with the books and game that we keep harping at you about Konan? I have not used your app. I am trying to learn wings/bryce and Sketchup at the moment so I can't give you any construction ideas...sorry. Jen
Hmm there are always all those mcfarlane dragon figures to choose from.. WAY too many to post images of...

Check there, and look at any of the Dragon waves for worthy candidates!
Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.
I always liked this pic, though not the face. It has many of the qualities that make me think "Dragon", though the fashion changes from decade to decade.
Traditionally dragons have four legs, two wings, a pointed tail, a snout and scales.

Dunno if this is of help to you Konan,
This is a link to a WIP I did in wings3d before my HDD went into meltdown, it is sort of similar to Antons' one above.

Hmmm, might have another go at modelling that one later ( I am in the middle of building a stable & other bits for a historic dutch village so am a bit time poor at the moment :tongue1:).

Reminds me of when I was a student years ago doing some teaching practice. A little five-year-old girl proudly showed me her plasticine dragon, with three legs.
"That's beautiful," I said, "but don't dragons have more than three legs?"
She thought for a minute, went back to her desk, and proudly showed me again. She'd added two more...

lol. That is awesome. :) I had a debate with my friend Merrilyn ages ago about dragon wings. I kept arguing the shoulders can't realistically be quad jointed to host wings that would work.
She politely and patiently said "Anton dragons are magical. They aren't suppose to make sense. They fly via their magic."

In the absence of any contact from Konan, I'm moving this thread into Developers.
If we're informed that this will be a free model rather than commercial, I'll put it back in Poser...

but i am looking for a helm/deco of this type.
Hi Netta,
Love the dragon! Nice looking helm there? Looks like a Celtic Design. Is it one of your own design or from a book/film etc? I ask as direct copying may breach copyright.
I am not sure how to do this stuff, I can have a play around with it if you like, but you may be better to ask in the freebie or modellers forum?
Which dragon do you want it for by the way?
it took me 3 months to find that pic above, after seeing an avatar pic of just the head ......lol
i can not find anything more on the artist at all... but would love to have the jeweled head dress for the mildragon in a simular design...

Quote - I've ALWAYS wanted to see someone take on Michael Whelan's version of the Pernese Dragon's of Anne McCaffery!
Omg! I love you! Ok that was a bit much, but he11 yes! I have almost every book by Anne McCaffrey. Pern is, of course, my utmost favorite series though. I just recently read her son's new pern book and he is awesome as well! I am so stoked for the next one he writes. I would love to see Ruth done for sure! I just finished rereading The White Dragon as well. I miss reading Anne's work lately.

I have something roughed out that i will post for you shortly, (i am workin overtime so may not get it loaded for a couple of days) it is a little 'squarer' than your one here due to the different shape of the mildragons head. I will let you judge it for yourself. (this will be my first prop so it wont have any morphs for other dragons etc as I have noooo idea how to do that )
I will start a separate thread and link it here so I dont sidetrack this one. (unless konan wants to have a play with it for his new dragon???)
Hi bnetta,
If you follow this link to the Wings3d forum you will find the dragon helm WIP. It is far from finished but any ideas from you or anyone else here for that matter will be most welcome.
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2717524&page=1
It is my first prop so any other modellers here please feel free to let me know how I can improve it and what I should do to get it to 'work' with the mildragon for bnetta please. Thanks Koran for your patience, I will give you back your thread now. Jen

So, anyway, this dude has to look super kool, k. So the reason why I am writing this posting is that I though you all give me some ideas for his general look and design. So, if you love dragons and wanna see this guy look awesome, please post links to kool dragon pics from the net, your own sketches or whatever and let's hammer out a look. Ideally, the dragon should be as non-humanoid looking as possible.
Once a general look for the dragon has been established, then I'll post updated images of the work in progress, and even make a tutorial that outlines the procedure so you can make your own creations in a similar fashion.
