Subject: Need help w/Dr Geep's roof

Mari-Anne ( ) posted Wed, 03 October 2007 at 10:01 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 7:49 AM

I can't seem to get beyond pg 39 (House II) of Dr. Geep's House tutorial.  In my top view, the MP sections look OK, but when I add the 1414 pieces even the top view  is  off.  And when I view the roof in Front view, even the MP pieces are not lined up.  Has anyone tried this tutorial and if so, successfully?  I've tried emailing the good Doc at geep@cybertrails.com but apparently, this is no longer a valid address for him.

I'd sure be greatful for some help.  I can post screen shots, settings, etc. if someone takes pity on me.

Try the link and go to the Forum section.  I'm certain the good Doc will be able to assist.

Hi Mari-Anne,

I'm sorry that you are having a problem.

First ... My CORRECT email address is now geep@cableone.net ... that is why I did not receive your email. ... Sorry 'bout that. ... ;=[

How far "off" is the "1414" prop?
Can U post a screen shot please?

Did you change your "Display Units?"  We need to be using "Poser native units."

I admire your attemp to build the "House."  It is NOT a simple project.

cheers,
dr geep

Well, it isn't that hard. You just have to follow all the steps very closely.

Hi Dr Geep,

Since posting here at Renderosity, I joined your DGS forum and posted my question there, as well.  Here's my page with screen shots:

http://www.emaycreations.net/Poser/DrGeep/HouseTutorial.htm

I should also tell you a friend of mine is doing the tutorial along with me.  She, too, had a discreppancy with the parameters at page 39.  However, she was able to make the adjustments and continue.  I, on the other hand, find it difficult to handle the rest of the pages without using your exact parameters.

By the way, yes - I am using the Poser Native Units

@ cherokee69 ... Hi Stan ... How are you?  Good, I hope ... ;=]

Hi Mari_Anne,

I am in the process of recreating the requisite props and then ...
I will go through the instructions to verify them ... ... or not?

Please stay tuned ...

don't quote me on this, but if a roof is composed of two pieces at 90 deg. to each other, the ceiling is approx. 1.414 times the width of each piece.

@ Miss Nancy,

Right you are and that's why the 1414 prop is named thusly ... ;=]

@ Mari-Anne,

Sorry, ... I redid (from scratch) the MP prop, the 1414 prop, and then constructed the "Main Roof" as per Page 39.  The results are shown in the above graphic. Please note where the "GROUND" (white line) is located. (in all of the views)

It would appear (from your pictures) that you may have not correctly adjusted the "Origin" for the MP and 1414 props as shown on Page 12 in the (link below) "Magic Pyramid" Tutorial.

I'm sure you're correct.  I'll go back to page 12 and see if that cures the problem.  This first round will probably just be a practice round.  I've discovered (when looking at my house from the side & back) that there are gaps between the 1st & 2nd floors so it appears a fresh start might be in order.

While I have your ear, I just have to tell you - I am awed that you have been so generous with your time and given us your wonderful Poser University site.  And that you'd take the time to help me.  Thank you so very much!  For us Poser newbies, your tutorials are invaluable.
