Subject: Spam in my site mail

Casette ( ) posted Thu, 04 October 2007 at 6:14 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 10:08 AM

Hi folks

I've received a spam mail from christ008. It's incredible some moron people think site mail is a commercial toy for them like they frequently rape our email accounts with their stupid spam.

This is the letter. I'm bored of these ridiculous stories

From Miss Christelle Adams,

christelleadams008@yahoo.com  christelleadams0/0/8/at/yahoo/dot/com

This letter may come to you as a surprise due to the fact that we have not yet met,but it should'nt,since we are determined to get what rightly belongs to us anyhow, but soon when every thing goes according to plan. The message could be strange but reality will definitely dawn on you, if you pay some attention to it's content. I would'nt have notified you but for the sake of your integrity and goodwill. Please accept my sincere apologies.

In bringing this message to you, I have to say that I have no intentions of causing you any personal pains or discomfort. My name is Christelle Adams ,23 years of age, living in the company of my junior brother a native of Dabou in Cote D'ivoire.

Our father before his death was a gold merchant  and cocoa merchant before his death. For more details and if there is any question do not hesitate to write and ask me through my personal mail address above.

Also our father was also one of the casualties of the invasion of the rebels, after their emergence in the capital city,in some parts of the country, of which our hometown was their stronghold. Since the killing of our father by the rebels life had been miserable, and we had been living in Abidjan, the capital city of ivory coas. The most passionate of all is the existence of the rebels here in this country since 19th september 2002.

Our mother died when I was just 12 years old,and since then my father took me so special. Before his death  on May 25 2003 he called the secretary who accompanied him to the hospital and told him that he has the sum of Eight million United State Dollars.(USD$8.000,000) left in a mettalic trunk box being registered as family valuables.

I am just 23 years old and a high school drop out and really don`t know what to do. This is because We have suffered a lot of set backs as a result of incessant political crisis in abidjan. The death of my father actually brought sorrow to our life. During my escape,i manage on to get on in my possesion the vital documents, that relate to the consignment, and i have even called on the company for confirmation.

We are  in a sincere desire of your humble assistance in this regards.Your suggestions and ideas will be highly regarded. Now permit us to ask these few questions:-

  1. Can you honestly help us.

  1. Can we completely trust you?

  1. We have decided to offer you 15% of the total sum and 10% to the less privildged and orphans .

  1. How can you assist us also in moving away from this place.please get back to me on my personal email address.

Please,Consider this and get back to us as soon as possible.

Thank you so much.
My sincere regards,

Christelle.

Christelle (or whatever name you are, man, because I'm sure this are lies): **

forget me.-**

hehe, It's ok. I almost made a new post about it too!  TBH I was a bit offended to find out that I wasn't "special" 😉 and that the same message was sent to several others.

I wonder what the criteria was as to who received it?  Alphabetically in the "Who is online" maybe?

I really wish they would get rid of that feature :(

I'm thinking it was sent to those in alphabetical order as seen in the "Who is online" area. So far it seems those with letters A, B, C and D received it. But you are way down the list with "V", so maybe they didn't get that far.

You need to report it to yahoo so they can catch it thru their spam filters on site everytime this person sends them out.

....erm..
the mail was sent internally on the Rendo System not on Yahoo.. thats just if you are answering...

AnnieD ( ) posted Thu, 04 October 2007 at 5:35 PM

Even if they are just using it to answer..Yahoo does not allow spammers once it is brought to their attention and now that they are affiliated with AT&T its even worse.
Yahoo can take away their account and put them on a list of spammers reported nation wide and  make it hard for them to get another account in that name.
I realize that if a spammer wants to spam bad enuff they will just get another account  in a different name, but at least it will  make them think twice about coming here if they think that they will be reported every time.

Is there a national reporting agency that handles this sort of thing? If so, Im going to report everything that even remotely resembles spam.

You can start here:

What Can I Do With the Spam in my In-Box?

Report it to the Federal Trade Commission. Send a copy of unwanted or deceptive messages to spam@uce.gov. The FTC uses the unsolicited emails stored in this database to pursue law enforcement actions against people who send deceptive spam email.

Let the FTC know if a "remove me" request is not honored. If you want to complain about a removal link that doesn't work or not being able to unsubcribe from a list, you can fill out the FTC's online complaint form at www.ftc.gov. Your complaint will be added to the FTC's Consumer Sentinel database and made available to hundreds of law enforcement and consumer protection agencies.

Whenever you complain about spam, it's important to include the full email header. The information in the header makes it possible for consumer protection agencies to follow up on your complaint.

Send a copy of the spam to your ISP's abuse desk. Often the email address is abuse@yourispname.com or postmaster@yourispname.com. By doing this, you can let the ISP know about the spam problem on their system and help them to stop it in the future. Make sure to  include a copy of the spam, along with the full email header. At the top of the message, state that you're complaining about being spammed.

Complain to the sender's ISP. Most ISPs want to cut off spammers who abuse their system. Again, make sure to include a copy of the message and header information and state that you're complaining about spam.

If you want to see more options do a google search for "spam reporting" and that should get you even more info.

I can remember when there wasn't any spam..  :(

hold on
they want you to use the remove me link thats supposed to be there??? thats the worst thing you can do! your're telling them the address is live by doing that.. and while they by law can't spam you again (Yeah right!) they then sell your marked as live addy onto another spammer!

AnnieD ( ) posted Fri, 05 October 2007 at 3:27 PM

Well..yu can use some common sense..BUT..if you do nothing then nothing will stop.

What is the saying?  something like the definition of madness is to keep doing the same thing and expecting different results..

Not exact but that's the idea anyway.

***Sorry Khai, I should have re-read this before I answered.
It doesn't say TO use it..  I think it means if you do use it and it doesn't work, this is what you can do.
Believe me, there are lots and lots of ppl on the internet who do use them...that's why the spammers still use them.
Newbies to the net still  have to learn the ropes...and sometimes that means learning the hard way.
I've been online since before windows 95 and I've learned lots of things the hard way,  :D

Anyway there are still honest mailing lists etc...who do remove you if you go there..especially home shopping pages who send you catalogs and art places and others who send you newsletters...so other ppl besides spammers use those "remove me" links.**

The trouble with spam mail is that it can be sent from a person who didn't even send it.
