Entirely sensible to me... I'm thinking of actually getting off my butt and ordering the beanie just so people can ask about it / recognise me as another memeber if i am out and about.
Most photographers have heard of Deviant, a lot havent heard of RR... not exactly a photographic title i suppose.

I checked out DeviantArt a long time ago - however as I had no desire to have my lovingly created CG image referred to as a "deviance expelled from the collective rectum" I took no further action!!! :-)
I think in most people's minds RR IS about CG and overly pneumatic females. A shame really, as there are some good images making their way onto here.
I have to agree that I think the first impressions here are not all that good, sad to say. I too wanted to show some of my co-workers a few of my photos, but as I got to the site by way of .com, the first thing they saw was a scantily clad over-endowed female poser character! Of course the guys wanted to know if I did "that" kind of art also! LOL :P
I totally understand the draw that those images have on the CG artistic community out there, but I would really like to see a little more professional display of the "variety" of artistic talent that we have here at RR. Then once a person decides they want to delve into a specific area, go for it..... whatever that community decides is best!!! IMHO!

Well, I have to make a confession... It was certainly not the Photography Gallery that persuaded me to sign up with Renderosity. And I (strongly) doubt that it would persuade me today.
The most important appealing factor for Renderosity, like it or not, is and has always been the Poser Gallery (and the Poser Marketplace). I started my gallery here with Poser images, before I even knew about the Photography Gallery...

Tonight at a sports event a lady stood beside me for a few moments, taking shots of the band on the field. I noticed her camera and commented about it, "Ah, a D200, a fine camera. I have one". So we had a brief conversation about photography. She first asked if I was a professional, no of course. She started with a Nikon D50 and her husband upgraded her to the D200. She has just completed the first semister in photography at a near by university. So, I wished her well and asked that she check out Renderosity. And, showed her my 'rosity hat.
That was it.
A week prior at a balloon thing, I told a lady there about our website. She was selling floral and insect prints. She checked it out and told me in a joking manner, she couldn't get to my gallery but saw how "men liked to create those exotic unreal images of women". I think she saw the ads for 3D addons. I wrote her back and explained it all. She said she was not offended but found it interesting. First view of our "front page" and that is what impression she got! Woe to me! There is so much more to this website than women parts..as she first thought.
Oh well, that is the report for this evening. I hope those folks will join up and really take a look around at all this website has to offer. I hope the one I met tonight will join and mention the sporting event so I will know it is her and respond. I did tell her to go to the photo forum for a bunch of folks who are willing to share experiences, knowledge and fun. I was right is that one.
Good night. Been up to late to make a sensible post. TomD'Art.
