Subject: Has your rosity email been lifted by spammers?

3Dillusions ( ) posted Thu, 27 September 2007 at 8:20 PM

The thing with me is the only place subsribed for this email is Renderosity.
But I am reproting them Daily so eventually they will get shut down.  I live in Hope, they are trully crimimals, spam is nothing compared to what havoc these guys are doing worldwide. I see my inbox is full this morning they hit it with a vengence.  No Matter off to report them again.

vince3 ( ) posted Sun, 30 September 2007 at 7:45 AM

still getting spam without having any notification from Rendo' or Daz now, apparently i am being offered an accounting job in iron and steel!! ( not opened but reading the title)

i can't even find a teaspoon (stainless steel) when i need one, so i'm sure i'll be perfect for this position.

so i don't know where my spam comes from, maybe my ISP?

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Sun, 30 September 2007 at 10:29 AM

Is this a new account Vince?

If Not...

...as Caly so eloquently put it**..."as soon as an address is "harvested," it gets put out there on a list shared by spammers. once it's harvested, it's compromised."**

G'day Tom!!

no. this is my old account, but new comp, i had stopped getting any for quite a while, but with new comp had to adjust my anti-virus softwares' on delivery e-mail scanner settings (not sure i have put them back the same actually)

anyway with new comp i have started getting one spam, whenever i get one (used to be two at a time) but now they are different titles than before, now they look as if they could be personal mail, like a friend writin' or sumfink ( haven't won the lottery for ages)

as i am not getting any notifications from Rendo', i figure it is not to do with e-bots, but then it started to look like it was arriving with Daz newsletter, so then i un-subscribed to that, but still got a couple ( so far)

so i am just writing here to show that, at least my spam anyway, will arrive with or without e-bots and/or newsletters, and it would appear to be just coincidence if it arrives on same day as a newsletter.

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Sun, 30 September 2007 at 8:08 PM

Hi Vince,
Yeah...I'm sure they gotta change up the SPAM from time to time...I mean...getting the same-ole SPAM all the time would get boring.

8 )

But for real...if it's an already compromised E-Mail address...it isn't going to mater if it's on a new box... In fact...I just swapped boxes this past week (The Old ASUS is giving up the Ghost I'm afraid)...anyway....I re-formatted them both...and re-installed my same ole E-Mail address on the different box...and the Spam just kept-a rollin in like nothing had changed.

That's because as far as My E-Mail address, and the Spammers were concerned...Nothing DID change.

Hey!!! did he say "Mater"  up there?
Let's throw rotten maters at that guy!!!

I'll save you grief of reading all that other gobble-dee-gook on Page 8 around Post 24...and just paste this part of that reply Here.

Tom Blathered the following:

"The only way to conduct a test of this sort is to start with a clean slate.

New Box

New Hard Drive

New Domain

New E-mail address.

Otherwise...other elements could be considered a compromise."

Hey....I just noticed our "8-Ball" exchange took place on page "8".
How KA-REEEPY is dat?

8 )~
I'm still waiting for you to E-Mail me that Horse-Shoe BTW.

vince3 ( ) posted Sun, 30 September 2007 at 9:03 PM

of course the horse-shoe!!

that's why i haven't been winning the lottery everyday,

i forgot i sold my horse-shoes to Peter Obe, he seemed to need some luck getting his depositing finances in strangers accounts business running smoothly, so bought them off me for 250,000,000 dollars, (am still waiting for the check actually, but i am sure it will arrive soon)

anyway, he is very busy with giving money away at the mo', but if you were to contact him, i'm sure he will reply as soon as he can, but like i said, he is very busy, so he may only be able to contact you once or twice a day!!!

The Lastest Scam

Take note people they are now getting desperate sending out fake Bravenet Emails supposedly saying you joined a online forum do not click the link its from a newsletter  called folarnews.

You will spot the fake immediately the person has a hotmail address and says you can get free products and coupons for discounted goods.

The link is loaded with malware, I have reported the website and they are tracing it.
They have tried everything that I can see but this one is the best of the lot.

Has anyone noticed they there is double what we got last week in phishing emails?

The Original IP address has changed to three new ones, looks like the email list  the criminals have has now be given to others, please see my other post above on how to report these guys.

there was a thing on UK news today about busting some internet cafes in Nigeria, they are where these scams are coming from, Uk police have picked up some over here also, and the Dutch police have got some of 'em in Netherlands too,

so maybe they have relocated now, on new machines in a different cafe, someone actually thought it a good idea to try it in the sitemail here today!! WTF!!!

it is nice to see that all the computers that were donated from people here in the UK to help a developing nation develop and to be able to communicate with the outside world, are being used in such a friendly manner, what with identity theft, fraud, kidnap, and even murder, being the end result of these scams, it just makes you wanna dig a bit deeper into those pockets when the rattily tins come 'round at Xmas.

personally i don't think even one computer got to the people that they were intended to get to.

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

I got 5 Nigerian scams , 3 Yahoo/MSN lottery scams, 3 Microsoft lottery scams, 5 Viagra ads, 5 penis enlargement ads, and 2 rich people with cancer wanting to give me all their money!! Thats only in the last couple of hours!!!
If all these were genuine, then I'd be a Billionare with a 10 foot dick that stays errect for 3 months at a time!!!!! LOL

If it ain't free, I can't afford it.

3Dillusions ( ) posted Thu, 04 October 2007 at 6:58 PM

All of those are from the same internet cafe in Nigerian, but there are another 4 new IP address they have shared the email address they now have.

They are worldwide unfortunately hundreds of cells its a real problem but if we spend a little bit of time reporting them then various law in forcement teams around the world can get to arrresting them in their respective countries.  Read my previews posts, I refuse to delete I also report.

http://www.castlecops.com/

Thats where I report once a day its simple no use talking about it, do something about it, I have had a gutload of these criminals all bets are off for them now.  The interent is now a haven for criminal activity and for those that like me that love it and frequently buy from it something has to be done. Joining is free and reporting is a joy, just think of it as a good 5 mins spent cleaning out the grabage.  We do it in our homes why not online.

I am not waiting to find out how they got my email address they did, and people should be aware there at botnets that have taken over 100's or website that people are not aware off, dont beleive me go to the webstie I provided and read the articles they provide and then you will see the extent of the problem online and in your inbox it will only get worse until we all do something about it.

As An australia, I dont whine I do, lol

I went to a new free web mail provider, never have posted my rendo only address anywhere (tho I guess you can send an e mail FROM here, I only us the message part here myself)... and have been SO FAR pretty happy - this company (not naming on purpose) seems to have a better spam blocker/filter in place so far... life has become about 99% better and more fun, getting and using all my rendo notices...

I really am beginning to think it is some sort of hackers/bots that somehow get the e mails off the e mail providors....oh wait, that theory does not hold, when I tried using my own private web host e mail for rendo only and that got flooded right away... scrunches up brows.... oh well... who really knows but the hackers!?

after today getting the spam in my SITE MAIL here, and finding a thread on that situation...well... it's just plain sad that this is just reality. Must be that there are actually enough people who actually reply to make it worth the effort of the hacker/spammers, right?? So maybe the better way to handle it is a huge campaign to yell as loud as we can DON'T EVER OPEN OR RELPY TO E MAILS WHEN YOU DO NOT KNOW THE SENDER.... kind of thing?!

Well, I decided to change my address for here tonight. I created a brand new gmail account and the address isn't being used anywhere but here.

I am subscribed to the newsletter and gallery comments. I don't subscribe to forum threads. I have also unsubscribed from receiving notification of gallery uploads.  So let's see how long I stay "spam free"

I just got a phishing mail today. On an email adress I made specifically for Renderosity - rosity@trekkiegrrrl.dk - it has never been used anywhere else.

Here's the email, in case someone has got a similar one:

*Sei stato invitato a "PLEASE REPLY".

Dall'organizzatore  :

Mr. Kenneth Marts
Head Investigation,
HSBC Bank Plc., London, SW17 0SP
England.

Hello,

I am seeking for your co-operation to present you to my bank as the next of kin/will beneficiary to Mrs. Sigrid Fassnacht, a foreign contractor from Cologne, Germany who died on a plane crash on July 25th 2000 with her husband Rudi Fassnacht. Her husband and their two children also perished in the air France Concorde New York bound flight; please click here for verification.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/859479.stm

Before her death she was a contractor to British National Petroleum Co-operation (BNPC) and has a bank balance with my bank to the tune of (10,500,000 million pounds sterling GB) which will be paid to you as her next of kin/will beneficiary. For your information, I am the Head of Investigation Department with HSBC Bank Plc London.

The board of directors of HSBC Bank Plc which I am also a member, mandated me to look for any known relation of Mrs.Sigrid Fassnacht, since after her death.

However, all my efforts to trace members of her family has been fruitless , this is the main reason I am writing you to ask for your co-operation for us to  claim this money because it will amount to injustice if I do not take this decisive step to secure this deposit and invest it, this is due to the fact that if nobody comes forward to claim the fund it will be forfeited to the government, this is my reason for contacting you, so that you can assist me in making this transaction a reality.

All I need to do is to give you the approval as the next of kin/will beneficiary and the fund will be paid to you as the beneficiary. We are to share this money between ourselves and also donate 10% to charity and the tsunami victims if you are really interested in this offer you should contact me immediately.
For detail of this transaction and procedures, please do forward me , your full name and phone number,Note that  I will commence immediately to secure all legal documents in your favor on your acceptance to fully co-operate with me.

I await your urgent response to enable us jumpstart this project and nurture it to reality.

Yours faithfully,

Mr. Kenneth Marts
Head of Investigation
HSBC Bank Plc. London.

Unsolicited email is spam.
I didn't post here to argue semantics or the moral/legal implications of non-existant insurance company scams vs. Nigerian inheritance scams. I can't see any difference whatsoever; but if you do, that's fine too.
I posted for the sake of information. I should have been more clear:
- To say that I am not getting any of the same type of scam spam that the rest of you in this thread are. Which implies to me that I am not being hit by the same spammers.

  • I subscribe to forum ebots here; but not gallery favorite ebots.
    - On the outside chance that somebody actually looks at one of my few pictures and comments, I get notification of that.
  • I have no merchant account here.
  • I have no purchase record here.
  • I have no freebies here.

Hmm interesting. Let's see if there's a common denominator here.

As mentioned above, I DO get phishing mails on an adress I've only ever used here. NOT on any other 3D related site.

I have ebots on
I have gallery comment notifications on
I have bought things here
I have free stuff here (but I fail to see how that's related, this email adress isn't stated ANYWHERE, especially not in relations to my free stuff)
I have a merchant account here.

As far as I can tell, there's NOWHERE where this renderosity email is visible for "outsiders" Not on my homepage here, not on my own homepage, nor in my free stuff, not in my store.

So I'm very curious as to how this email adress has been "let loose"

MIND YOU: I'm not saying it's anyone from Rosity that has sold it, I just want to know how it can have "fallen in the wrong hands"

I was wondering if all of the emails from Renderosity originate from the same mail server?
And, are all of Renderosity's servers in the same physical location?

Now that is a good question there Dvlenk6, also appologies I sounded a bit nasty there and I am the least nastiest person you will meet online.

I wonder if they have tested the software used for the website for any exploits, there are plenty that can take over people email address, for me it all started the day I opened a new email account bang Phiishing emails.

They have now exploded to 20 plus a day.
I wonder if they have tested by opening a new account only for Rendersoity usage with different ways to recieve information. One email per recieving information, like Favourite artists and so on.

I'm kinda wondering why it doesn't appear like anyone at Rosity has done anything to solve this matter. The problem obviously still exists and closing your eyes to it won't make it go away...

Update re: new email address created.

No spam received so far.

Since creating this new account I have received the following from Renderosity:

4 ebots about gallery comments;
1 ebot indicating someone "favourited" me;
Confirmation for an MP purchase;
1 newsletter.

The only thing that is different this time around is that my old email address was created and used when RO allowed email messages to be sent. This new email address was created after they removed that feature.

Did you have those activated in the old email address?

Acadia ( ) posted Fri, 12 October 2007 at 12:20 AM

No. Not usually. I practically live here,  hehe  However there were a few times that I forgot to uncheck the box and ended up with an ebot notifying me about a thread.  So far I haven't forgotten to uncheck it with this address. If I do though I will make a post about it and see if it results in spam.

Okay People my own experiment coming right up
This is what I have done I have open a new sneak account, what this is bascially a masking email my email is one they provide and then it forwards it to my email account I had previous.

I have been given advice to do this as a test.

This is what will happen,  If I still recieve Phishing emails then unfortunately I will know that its actually comeing from Renderosity somewhere, please note I am not trying to cause dissent or trouble, I want these criminals dealt with.  Plus I have no time to be drowning in their criminal emails.  If there is a leak this will prove it.

Then something really has to be done about it.

Acadia ( ) posted Fri, 12 October 2007 at 2:42 AM

If you are talking about POP3 mail forwarding that didn't help me.

I have a gmail account here and I had the mail from there forwarded to my outlook address. The spam still came.

I have the same set up again, another gmail account which I have set to forward my emails to my outlook express via POP3 mail forwarding.

3Dillusions ( ) posted Fri, 12 October 2007 at 3:03 AM

No I am talking about my GMAIL account so far its free nothing for the last hour.

I have never used a POP3 account online nor will I, you are asking for it to be sold to spammers.

Spam doenst bother me is the Phising that is driving me nuts, there are lots of people online that are no savvy enough to see that these emails are from criminals.

You not hidiing you email address by doing it this way, you need someone like Sneakmail a third party filtering site that has a strong antispam and phising engine  to do it for you, if you like put the title sneakmail in google, and go to their site and set up a free account like I did, and wait for 24 hours and see if it stops is yes then its coming from here.

The more tests the more we can solve this.

3Dillusions ( ) posted Fri, 12 October 2007 at 5:07 PM

Okay by Australian time its October the 13th

The experiment has completly faild, the leak is definately from site mail.
Now I am not saying this is intentional as the advice I have been given is it happens to the best of sites, but there it is, and on a new note I recieved doulbe the phising emails

I am off to report those ones at the place I do for all phishing emails, makes me wish I had spam,

Stacey when you read this you know I would never cause trouble, if you want to pass it on, there are people willing to check and plug the leak let me know these guys do this everyday and they work for Suncorp.  There in the business to stop sites leaking and as far as I know their is no fee, but dont quote me on this, lol.

Lets get rid of these criminals once and for all.  If anyone is recieving spam then its not from here I can assure you.  this only pertains to Phising emails, as the new address was clean for up to an hour before it the Phishing started.

Total Count 52, I only every recieve around 20 plus or so a day thats doulbe what I have been getting.  So either sharing the main list or its one group and its using botnets, people infected computers to spew out all this stuff.

We all get those it is not coming from our mail server but if you have a email account on here you can go to the online one and play with the spam filters to up them or what not . I just delete them as spammers can get a email address from when you visit a site etc.

I wonder if the admins saw your last posts here, Angela and Warren?

Woz.. I'm confused..

Are you saying that the "microsoft lottery" thing as in the same email as a "you've changed your email" from Rosity?

Or just that you got them at the same time?

I'm not saying this IS what happened, but once my "inbox file" got corrupted as Thunderbird decided to throw a hissy and that resulted in the most weird mangled emails. Mixed up just like this, and emails where the subject didn't fit what was inside them (from people I knew so it wasn't because it was spoofing anything)

I'm not defending Rosity as such (well I'm defending them when I feel it's warranted) but this is REALLY odd...

I too would love to know how the renderosity mail recieved got into this email, when I do a look up of the original email they are all from Amsterdam.

How did you trace this email and why is yours saying renderosity when mine do not?
Very strange.

Yes they are both a single email. This is where the "tag" starts +OK 3009 octets between the 2 mails.

You do realise that your email address will be picked up the next time Google spiders the site.

3Dillusions ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2007 at 7:07 PM

Thats all good and well nruddock but the spammers and phising groups have it Google is nothing compared to those guys.

Something is up. Last months Renderosity News letter showed up and I got 64 spam mails with it. I usually get maybe 3 spam tops a day. Usually none.

Ok maybe a quark I though so I just waited. Todays Renderosity newsletter showed up along with 41 spam mails.

There is something wrong with this site. It's like a copy of the Neweletter is being forwarded to somehere where the e-mail address is read and you get a instant spike in spam.

I sent them off a e-mail but I don't know if they will do anything.
Easy for them to test it though.

I only get the spam flood spike when the Newletter shows up. That e-mail address only recieves Renderosity mail. I use different acounts for my regular mail for years now.

MightyPete ( ) posted Wed, 17 October 2007 at 4:47 AM

Oh looky this, it keeps logs...

Can you figure out the days the Renderosity newsletter showed up according to these logs ?

Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 11:09 PM 45 mails fetched. **
Mon, Oct 8, 2007 at 9:16 AM** No mails fetched.
Mon, Oct 8, 2007 at 6:31 AM 62 mails fetched.
Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 12:18 AM One mail fetched.
Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 10:24 PM No mails fetched.

If it makes no sence read the post one up.. Like I said I don't get a lot of spam but I seem to get a increadable amount the same exact time the Renderosity Newsletter shows up.. Time to fix it.  The problem is here, the problem is somehow Renderosity.. !

scanmead ( ) posted Wed, 17 October 2007 at 12:50 PM

Does Renderosity actually mail out the newsletters, or is it handled by another company? I know 3DC has a 3rd party mail their's out, or used to.

StaceyG ( ) posted Wed, 17 October 2007 at 2:02 PM

Mighty pete,

I sent you a response back.  FYI, let me know if you have any questions once you get it

StaceyG ( ) posted Wed, 17 October 2007 at 2:02 PM

Oh and scanmead, we send our own newsletters out, no 3rd party

Update re: new email address created.

I forgot to uncheck the "subscribe to thread" box and received a couple ebot notifications about replies to a thread.

Received a few notifications about wish list items on sale.

No spam received.

Well than it's just the newsletter. How i know is I get two of them and I get twinned spam also, Matching pairs with all different dates of being sent. As if that was possible.  The Merchant Newletter and the Weekly Newsletter.  We are going to try a few tricks on the next Newletter.

Breathe :)  It's not worth having a stroke over.

Are you sure it's a new thing in your site mail inbox or did you maybe just notice this particular message? Please see this thread where someone was sending site mail spam and was dealt with.

Are you joking mate or what, I know Pshising when I see it so stop treating me like a dummy.

Its in my site mail inbox, end of story, I wonder how many people are going to log on this morning and find the same.  This is NOT SPAM, they are not trying to sell me anything, they are asking for personal information, thats called Phishing, I have been reporting Phishing for over a year I know the difference.

And not have a stroke, over criminals accessing a private inbox, sure right I will just have a cup of coffee instead.  And when I say this is the only thing in the inbox I mean just that, plain english I am speaking, I will await admins replies thanks
