Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 24 12:37 pm)
Its "simple" clothes you make are made in OBJ files ... and when thay work in Poser they can be loaded into Vue just like the ones you buy..
Making Clothes etc etc can be done in a Modeling program like Silo, Hexagon, Blender etc etc.
Some are free some cost a fortune and some are cheap.. but they all COST a ton of time to learn.. and then you need to RIG the thing you made to work in poser that cost a second TON of time ..and dont forget texturing ..that cost 2 TONS of time to get right and you need a UV MAPPER tool / program ..and a Image editor like GIMP, Photoshop. etc etc..
So putting you model into Vue ... is not a problem at all
can I make custom Poser models with supernatural qualities
Euh ...and what do you mean with this ?

Chris
Its no problem when you make it yourself ...
You can make what ever you like ..its the rigging etc etc that makes it work ...
Robots etc etc look diffrent but work the same as V4 etc etc..
So learn rigging for poser and create your dreams
And in MAX ..." i wish i had MAX " ... you can do it no problemo ...
Chris
PS you can use Poser figures ect etc from Poser or DAZ for your own use..
You can not use the models or part etc etc of them for Selling etc etc...

Nmuta,
Since you are familar with Max let me just say that rigging a character for Poser is totally different from Max, different program differnt ways. Bones are bones but Poser is a different species.
There are programs available that are supposed to take a riggerd character from Poser and bring it into Max without hardship...but I am not convinced that there isn't a good deal of tweaking afterwards. However, I have not tried the other programs...just heard from others.
Sure you can do what you are asking, frog head on mans body, creating armour and clothing for Poser, etc. You are ahead of the game in that you know Max and are familiar with modeling ways. But you will have to learn a new program and it's ways...Poser.
You need to learn Poser's body part terminology and it's parent/child relationships. The brains of any figure is it's CR2 file....learn to hack it. (you will have to search high and low for good tutorials that won't leave you hanging) When you model clothes take the obj from the Poser runtime folder, don't export from Poser. Some peps do (export from Poser)...I would encourage you to not. It gets funky.
Learn how to create a blank CR2 and hijack that for your custom figures. Some of your programs of choice will be CR2 editor, obj action scaler, ZBrush, AutoGroupEditor and of course almost any program from Phil C (google), also a new one for me (though it's very old) PHI builder.
For me, if it's a suit of armour and/or a custom humanoid character...hijack a CR2. If you are creating multi limbed beasts of prey...PHI builder. Though it is different to learn, once you do it's rather easy. Some just use PHI builder and nothing else. Nothing wrong with that.
You'll find some threads in Max and ZBrush forums about interaction with Poser...just don't tell anyone you are using Poser...almost an automatic blackmail in some places.
Good luck.

Are you looking to animate body movements inside Vue?
If you're not looking to animate things, there's no reason why you couldn't take your max creations into Vue (after you've posed them).
You can also take Poser Content and use it in Max, however, you'll have to do your own rigging, and material assignments. If you're used to making your own models in max, doing that is not the end of the world.
There are several programs that help, somewhat help importing Poser content into Max. None of them are perfect or do everything.
What is the main reason you want to do things in Vue? Is it animation, poser content? is it environment and landscape creation or something else?
Vue Xstream may be worth checking into for you.

Quote - I guess "supernatural" is an wrong term. Simply I want to make a man in Poser with a frog's head and a man's body.
Poser has lot of limitations when it comes to this.
For example, in Max, you may be used to stretching and moving and welding polygons, or filling in the feometry to join the body and the head, when they came from different figures.
In Poser, you can't do that (well, you can, but in a rather frustrating and roundabout way if you're used to doing things in Max.)
In Poser you would have to look for a cpecific figure, for example, Michael3 made by DAZ, and then look for add-ons made specifically for that figure, so you don't have to mess with joining parts that don't join on their own.
Now, if you want to take advantage of Poser content available in many places, in Vue and Max, you really don't NEED Poser at all. You could use DAZ Studio (free at DAZ), and collada exporter, and few native exports from DAZ studio, and you'd be in business.
Unless you're in love with Poser or want to resell Poser content, and since you're used to Modelling in Max, you're much better off rigging things in Max.

I am cunfussed
Do not need Poser at all for this anyways.
Why not use Vue,World builder or what ever as a Max plug.

I should clarify a few things:
I AM MAKING AN ANIMATED SHORT.
I WANT TO USE VUE BECAUSE OF THE SCENERY GENERATION ABILITIES.
I wanted to use Poser because I have read that Poser is the only content that you can bring into Vue and ANIMATE.
But here's what I'm hearing from you guys:
Poser is very limited . I may be better off creating my characters in Max and buying Vue xStream.
Poser is very limited in general. Better off sticking with Max.
Is that the consensus?

Poser is great for those of us that can't afford Max.

PS: Please don't SHOUT.
WITHOUT A DOUBT!
Sorry, sometimes I'm a little kid.
Poser is a great program and is really very resourceful for the amount of money it cost's.

Especially if you already have Max and are handy with it, you'll find Poser limiting (well, I did), and sounds like you're ahead of me when it comes to character modelling in max.
There is a utility I use to bring things into max, it's available here on rendo for only 40.00 and it will bring the character and maps into max, and it will create max bones or a biped for you. You will have to edit the rigging a bit and adjust the falloff zones. I'm not handy at rigging in max but people that are tell me it's not that big of a deal to adjust what pomax brings in. (see more in Max forum)
There are other utilities that do similar things, ranging from free to $200-300.

I just got Vue D'Esprit Personal Learning Edition. Eventually I will be purchasing full version and I want to CREATE and IMPORT my own Poser model creations into Vue.
I am an experienced 3ds Max character modeler, and would prefer to use Max models inside of Vue, but this is not possible. So, I have to learn POSER.
so...MY QUESTION IS.... can I make custom Poser models with supernatural qualities? Specifically I want to make sci fi vililans, like a person with a Man's body and Frog Head. Is this possible in Poser?
Also, can I make my own CLOTHING in Poser for my models? I'm sure these questions have been asked a thousand times over but I cannot seem to find the answer. Thanks.
(Remember...these models are going into Vue).
