Get a Space Navigator.

I got one from Amazon.com.  The Personal Edition (PE) is for non-commercial use and is the same as the Standard Edition (SE) which includes a commercial-use license.

why -

It is a device operated by your non-mouse hand for panning, zooming, rotating, and moving up and down.  It is very sensitive and requires very little hand/finger movement. It takes a little getting used to but I think it is the PERFECT device for moving around in a 3D environment.

You still use the mouse for selecting and all menu operations.

Silly question, why would you need a commercial license for using what is at it's heart a mouse? what's next? a commercial license to use your keyboard or screen?

Anyone have advise concerning an affordable mouse replacement for persons with disabilities e.g. motor problems? A device like this but being a replacement for the mouse rather than an an addition to it?

I just found this site http://www.makoa.org/computers.htm there might be something usefull there.

i have one and absolutly love it.

you can also toggle between camera control and joint bending too.

if i recall correctly the main diffrence between the "commercial" license and the "personal" license is that the commercial version gets phone suppor and e-mail support and the personal version only gets website support.

edit: personal version does not get e-mail support, only website support.

Space Navigators are a useful tool if you work in 3D full time like CAD Engineering, I hadn't thought of using one for Poser or Vue though!

I just wondered cause it sounded like some of the things on here in the past with their commercial or private use only clauses. If it's just the level of support you get then it makes sense.

You have only been able to use them in poser since SR2.

Have it skinned and its hide tanned (with fur) - that way you can keep your beef jerky, and at the same time you get a nice little rug to keep your feet warm when you're in the bathroom on winter mornings.

As an alternative, I got myself one of Belkin's Nostromo game pads with 20 programmable scriptable keys... Not quite the space navigator, but works pretty slick for a lot of things. CAD, 3D studio, photoshop... You can program a set of custom commands for each application you run.

Now i just have to remember which app I'm in at any givin moment...

Yes, that's the main problem with Space Navigator, applications must be modified in order to support it.

Many vendors (hint, hint, DAZ) are slow getting around to it (if ever).

Vince, I make my own jerky (cos the stuff you can get in Sainsburys is too bloody expensive) and I know it looks leathery but it's not really. It's yummy. I put lots of Henderson's relish in the marinade, that's the ticket ;-)

Peng, I felt the urge to cover my cat's eyes and ears when I read your post. Then I realised that a) she can't read; b) I'm anthropomorphising a little too much these days and c) I shouldn't mix wine with these new pain meds...

Cats need no athropomorphisation, they're human!

Space navigator is just for the camera view (and bending joints in poser) it does not move your cursor.

What Tyger said. So you can manipulate your camera with a Navigator and still have full control regarding anything a mouse & cursor can do.

That is correct.

Wouldn't work for me.  When I'm on here, my right hand is the mouse mover and my left hand is my smoking hand.

BTW, I think you should all smoke.  If you don't, you should start immediately. If you do, good but you should smoke more.

I will certainly encourage my kids to smoke from an early age.

I'll tell you why some other time but trust me on this, it's the best thing you could ever do.

Forget using the hands.  Try OCZ's Neural Impulse Actuator.  I use it (an alpha hardware version) for panning etc. It's like having a 3rd hand.
