You might have noticed some wth? posts in the Freestuff forum here. Another brand-new site I frequent has had several incidents where people list 100+ links to such goodies as male enhancement drugs in one post. I've been around for a few years, and never seen this before, although I go nowhere but art forums. So.. is this some new way of irritating the water out of people, or is it just now spreading into the artistic sectors? Spam in email, spam in snail mail, spam phone calls, spammers knocking on my front door, and now spam in forums. And I don't even eat meat. fft

I read you message but i dont see the point you try to make?
Is R'O spamming you are Members spamming you ? who here is doing what ?
Spammer find ways to spam you in any way... so please tell me what it is you try to tell me ?

It's been so long since I joined here..I don't remember exactly what I had to do to get the account.  
Apparently these are people and not bots who are signing up and then dropping their spam ads into the forums. ??

There are ppl signing up and dropping spam into the forums...so it is members spamming.
However I don't think they are art members.  I think they are just spammers who have found another way to torment ppl.  :(

These are probably the same ones who spam the mail here too.??

But i never seen SPAM in the forums "yet" 
I got a IM from a spammer and that being taken care of...

They "R'O" will find a way to deal with it.. 
I think we just wait and never do any thing with those mails, Im, etc etc

As far as I know..it just started within the last couple of days...at least in the forums that I subscribe to.  I'm sure they can figure out a way to stop it but it is annoying to get a notice that someone posted to the forum and when you get there its nothing but an advertisement to sell you something.

yessss... the staff is very efficient! Like you don't have enough to do without being the Commercial Police in forums. ;) I was just wondering if people posting ads in forums was a new thing, or an old thing that finally got around to the sites I frequent. The brand, spankin' new VRay4C4D site is getting hit with this stuff just about every day, and those are just the ones I happen to see before they're deleted. Do people out there not have enough to keep them busy?

I saw this stuff in the freestuff forum and sent Debbie an IM about it asking what it was all about. The next day, someone else had joined and left 3 messages about items that were FREE on some site. None of it was art related. I got and email from SndCastie that it was taken care of. Evidently, the message were deleted.

Someone just dropped spam in the photo forum. I have seen spam on other forum (sites) it's not a new thing, just an annoying one. p.s. Be careful when clicking on links in new threads as they can be dangerous.

Yes, we are grabbing these as we see them gang...if you see one pop up, dont hesitate to send any of the staff a note and a link to the forum thread so we can get it taken care of..

Email spam is hard to track, but if the spam is being sent by a real person, to somewhere like forums,  then it would be reatively easy to trace as long as the site keeps accurate logs of the IP addresses used by users when they sign up.  So, if the spammer was working from home, then they should have the spammers IP which can be traced back to their provider, and hopefully the spammers ISP also keeps logs of IP assignments. 

I worked as the only technical person for an ISP in MI for many years, and I had to deal with this stuff on a daily basis.  Most ISPs keep accurate records and are very consciencious about zapping users who are spamming.  It is in their best interest to do so.  If they don't, then their domain(s) and/or IP range(s) could end up on peoples blacklists and then none of their emails would get through.

We've been plagued with this over at RaunchyMinds for quite some time. I'd love an easy way to stop this. I'm deleting it as soon as it pops up, block the IP, ban the member, but it just continues from a new (dynamic) IP.

Short of banning entire countries I don't really see how you can fight it. It's like weed.. you can pull it up and keep it down but as soon as you blink it's back to annoy the snot out of you!

Let's hope that a lack of response, and no one clicking on their links will give them the idea it's a losing proposition and they'll move on to something more profitable. sigh

Even posting the link gains them something if Google spiders a site while the link's accessable.

In fact, I suspect that this is real reason these posts are made.

I am a admin on my own BBS. This is called script injection and it took me a long time to figure out how to stop it. It's not people, it's spam bots. They join, they spam. On my site they get auto banned instantly for life if caught. And boy do they get caught. I've got thousands and thousands of banned ip addresses. That sort of slows them down but the thing that stopped them cold is a script I added called key word. ( or something like that ) Basically it's a password that is posted on the site somewhere along with instructions on the sign up page of where and how to find it to enter it in the key spot. Without that password you can't join and bots can't read so it stopped them cold. And a added bonus the password is just a picture of the word so it can't be scanned by a bot. Only a human could read it. Don't know the word you can't submit the application so you can't join. Simple. You have to add the script yourself though cause it's not considered a bug in the BBS software.

Yes search engines are why these post show up. They change the results of the searches if they have enough hits.

Nice that Firefoxes spelling checker no longer works here ay ? Are we learning anything yet ?

CAPTCHA is a good idea, but slightly annoying to do it everytime.  I didn't realise we had spam in the forums here.   I've not seen any, but I only read a few of the forums.

On a slighty different subject, Dear Friend,  I have $12m that I need to get into the country and I'll give you 10% if you would give me your name, social security number and bank acount details.  ;-)
