THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Is Your PC running slow?

Just a heads-up for some of you.

You've just finished that mega 7 day long render and put it to bed.
You've shutdown Bryce 6.1and moved on to other tasks.
Your PC seems to be running slowly.

Go to the TASK MANAGER and processes.
Look down the list and see if Bryce is STILL RUNNING.
If it is, select and right-click to end process.

Your pc should be back to normal now.

Hmm, strange...... It never seems to happen on my PC, but thanks for the headsup.

Daz Studio does the same thing..refuses to let go after I've had it running any length of time.
When my pc starts running slow the first thing i do is look at processes.
Internet Explorer used to hang on too...but since I switched to IE 7 I haven't had any probs with it.

This is a common problem with Windows applications especialy ones that are resource hogs... the Resrouce Hungry application wont shut down properly because it is eating up so much of you're PC's resources that Windows can handle the shut down.

FireFox
Lotus Notes
PhotoShop

Are just a few resource hungry programs that will have this problem.

So if you're PC Slows down for no good reason, either shutdown the application that is stuck as explained in this thread.. or better yet Reboot You're computer.

Although you may recover speed back from using the End Process option... you may not get certain resources back, such as memory used by the application that did not shutdown properly.

Ah yes Firefox. that explains it I just figured out how to get my network online through a switch and two ethernet connectors. the main computer is like sludge - it runs XP home and has firefox. the one I'm on has half the hardware resources, is running ME with IE 5.5 and does not have firefox - it runs the internet through the bridge to my DSL like greased lightning.

  • who knew?

Attached Link: TClockEX

I use a small program for XP (Vista has it's own) called "TCLockEX" which works in the tool tray. It has a memory usage bar. Typically after Photoshopping an image I have to close PS and/or Reboot.

Great little Program

p.s. it also works with other versions of windows (except NT)

Yes Me! .. but then rethinking it's probably just that the XP computer is taking up the AV and Firewall activities as well as all the switching responsibilities ... or perhaps I'm just thinking about it too hard and as Katrina has reminded me at least 3 times in the past half hour it is well past my bedtime.

Its funny that we are discussing this and just last night through IM I had a friend ask me why her Copy/Past stopped working in Photoshop... so I had her shut down photoshop and re-load it to solve the problem.   If large amounts of data is stored in the clip board, photoshop will ask you if you want to purge the data before shutting down and that will do the trick.

Af for FireFox... its is a great browser and I love using it, however it does have memory leaks and the odd crash here and there.

I've found that if you open websites in a single window but Multiple Tabs using the CTRL-T  key combination, it has a less of a chance from crashing.

I ahd that problem with Bryce 5. It was fun trying to run a render in Bryce and so some work in Photoshop at the same time.
