Subject: Your opinion counts - Favorite Figure Model for Poser?

Ok, so I am about this close (imagine two fingers very close together here) to throwing V4 into the back-bin where all the other figures I almost never use sit. Her body morphs are super, but her face is just unattractive, and the morphs just don't work for me. V3 simply had the better face, and I do think you can make a good, difference face from her, with a bit of skill. Anyway - would anyone care to go on record with a recommendation of a female figure for Poser that has the same fluidity of V4's body but with the better versatility of V3's head? Thanks for any input. the vorpalbunny.

AFAIK there ain't no such animal, unless P7's Sydney bends as well as V4.  Aiko 3 bends somewhat better than V3 but the model still has horrible leg joints.

Yes, I know they can be fixed with morphs and tinkering with JPs but out of the box there's not much to compare with V4.

Personally, I like V4.  The default shape isn't great and the face could stop a clock but I don't have the slightest problem with the morphs.

Aiko has a great versatility with her body and face, the great bad point is the expressions, terrible when you want to make her face smile!!

I will not be buying V4. I treasure my V3. My fav figure models are V3 and DpHoadley's remapped PosetteV3.  Those two models are all I need. It seems Aiko is the most popular model.

EJ is Eternal Judy, an add-on for P5 Judy. Basically it adds a bunch of morphs and a much better looking face.

I like Vicki4 a lot. But since she has 50 thousand morphs built-in ( so she's a massive cr2 file ), she's impractical to use unless you're just doing portraits.

Vicki 3 has a great face but her shoulders bend weird and her thighs flatten out with kneeling poses.

To pick up the harp again... I wish Vicki 4 came with an injection ready version

I certainly agree with the need for V4 to have a little help in the face area. Over the past few months I've purchased about 40 different characters for her and all the face morphs I can find. I think there are some good ones out there, and I've attached a few of my own renderings of those with some slight modifications. I don't ever post my work, so perhaps these faces are mundane to others, but to me it seems V4's face has a capability approaching V3 but not there yet. I would not give up on V4, but I do wish a talented vendor or two would work up some more morphs for her face. I am aware of what other sites offer for sale in this regard.

Thanks
Mark

You've certainly got a good Geena Davis clone up in the upper left there. I am considering adding the RDNA Ultmate Morphs to my toolkit to see what happens. Ever tried that one? I guess I just want to either make peace with V4 or move on, and not sure what I want to do really. Thanks to all so far for the feedback. -VB

Plutom ( ) posted Sat, 20 October 2007 at 7:48 PM

EJ?, I missed that one--Judy is my favorite (had a thing for the actress that played her in LIS). -and I'm on my way of changing Judy into Jessica-just a few minor problems, got the eyes, nose, and mouth and basic face down.  Now all I have to do is arrange everything so that Judy look like her.  Plutom

Mark@poser ( ) posted Sat, 20 October 2007 at 8:02 PM

vorpalbunny,
I have the RDNA morphs, but don't use them that much, at least not at a setting of 1.00 (maybe 0.1 of this and 0.23 of that). I think they just came out with a new set, and I have not gotten those yet but probably will. I have tried mixing the settings before and that was interesting. You might be happy with trying that. The package that really excited me about V4's face was DM's Luciana. I seem to start with those settings more often than not and then start spinning the dials. Marvy by Damsel is also an interesting face for sale in the marketplace. The only unique morphs I've made myself are some chin morphs as the V4 ones seemed too simple. I'd try to grab as many free morphs and faces as you can find, and when you see one that looks reasonable, start from there. I also like (in P7 at least) that you can save a full face morph to the figure you're working on. I've built a sort of "Master V4" that way and always start a new figure from my last one with all my old faces saved in it as morph dials. Sometimes mixing those give interesting results.

Thanks
Mark

Personally i like V3 face shape the best!..as for working on V4, the default face shape makes all of us look like paedophile!..hence i gotta spend more time in tweaking her face more adult like.

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1514939&member

The reality is that at this stage , there are more freebies and items frm marketplace that are compatible to V4..so what can we do?

As for Miki, she has got good textures to work on but again, need to tweak her face again..

KarenJ ( ) posted Sun, 21 October 2007 at 4:22 AM

Miki 2 is nice but my all-time favourite is Steph Petite. She bends really well. But it's VERY difficult to "un-Steph" her face.

vorpalbunny ( ) posted Mon, 22 October 2007 at 4:05 PM

I have to admit, the more I use the body mesh of V4, I love the realism to it, the fluidity of it, but her face still troubles me. But the one suggestion here of finding a face morph that doesn't look goddess-awful and then morphing from there seems to be a good idea - I have one I am playing with now and will post results soon. Thanks to all so far for the feedback.

V4 body for female
Apollo body for male
Eszter porp head best for male or female

For those who have V3 and V4 and like the V4 body but prefer the V3 head, just pop it on over in the setup room.

operaguy ( ) posted Mon, 22 October 2007 at 7:36 PM

Yes, although i would not do it, just frankenstein V3 head onto V4 body!

I, however, think the V4 head is fantastic and I can make plenty of characters from it with the supplied morphs and even more using the MorphBrushTool.

Curious, as stated above A3 and A3R's expressions. How do you people that use A3, get any expression using her mouth to look decent? I still haven't been able to put a smile on her face I like unless her lips stay together. She has a ton of cute clothes. But because of problems with expressions I find myself converting those clothes to V3 or V4, because I can't for the life of me make A3's face wotk and I have bought a ton of characters for her thinking one of them would work. PS: My current favorites are Pez and KristaLynn (young looking V3's and V4's). I am slowing like V4 more and more based on some of the char sets the PA's are providing. But own mostly V3 stuff.

I prefer V3, but then I have no experience with V4 and very little with Aiko3.

From the gallery, it does seem to me, following comments above, that while V4's body generally bends better, I rarely see really beautiful V4 faces, and few people seem to be really using her body morphs much, so I can't compare her potential voluptuousness with V3. Doesn't mean V4 can't be pretty, or have a tweaked out bod -- I just don't see much of it. Maybe  she's just still relatively new.

I do like the V4 portraits by Mark@poser above.

Vicki 3 has a great face but her shoulders bend weird and her thighs flatten out with kneeling poses.<

Yes, definite problems there, but I highly recommend these FREE morph corrections graciously provided by Maveris. They include morph targets for both the sides and tops of her shoulders, top of thighs, back of knees, and the inside of her forearms, plus an eye-control  injection that gives better results than either "point at camera" or "point at prop behind camera" or, at least usually for me, manually focusing the eyes.

I really love working with both V3 and Aiko. Those are my 2 figures of choice.

My least favourite one is SP3 because of her large, weirdly shaped head.

Ok, well let me add another least favourite. Jessi! I've never worked with this figure beyond loading her in the scene and using Wardrobe Wizard to analyze clothing, but she looks like an outer space alien and is "butt ugly" IMHO. No offence to any outer space aliens who may be reading this :)

You know, it is interesting to me that no one so far has put stock Poser figures as "favorites" here. Even current figures (except for the lone vote for Simon in P7) are not in here. Wonder if E-Frontiers could save some effort if instead of making these figures with the program, they put those resources in to making the program actually work and be bug free? Nah, that isn't going to happen. As for the whole male figure thing - I am curious as to the ratio of male-female artists. Just cruising the galleries, male figure are definitely under-represented. Is that because most artists are male?

I agree with you (Mec4D)

I like a lot V2 and M2 faces. It´s easier to apply the textures on them.
M2 has the most handsome face of all male figures.
V2 has a beautiful face too.
M2 and V2 head shape accept better the face textures, especially on the skin around the eyes.

The default V4 shape has a very pretty face but the eyes (just geometry) is too complexed and it´s dificult to make visible a good skin texture arround the eyes.

Very unfortunatly, people do not make products for M2 and V2. Very, very unfortunatly.

It would be perfect if DAZ realease an new M2 and V2 revisited, mainteining the UV Maps and including more morphs, changing just a little the geometry (making it more soft).

I wish they revisited the 2 models as well.. but still you can make a new body and head morphs as well.. I try to play with m3 but I just don't feel it, everything looking just funny..
I wonder what for new models coming up with Poser pro.....

Well, chipping in on my score... I don't really have a favourite female figure, or a leasy favourite... about the only figure I return to constantly because of its versatility and quality is Apollo Maximus. I'm surprised no one else has yet mentioned him, actually - or is it still kind of taboo here after all this time?

vorpalbunny ( ) posted Tue, 23 October 2007 at 2:28 PM

Not sure why it would be taboo, but I have been told Apollo is a fine male figure, and while I haven't played much with him yet, he is in my runtime. Seldom do I need males, though it seems. Maybe Mec4D is right, and I just like playing with the girls .... ;-)

pjz99 ( ) posted Tue, 23 October 2007 at 2:35 PM

Apollo is rigged better than any Poser figure, male or female, by a very very wide margin.  For females, V4 poses the best by a long shot for the great majority of poses, although not as well as Apollo.  V3 - Beverly Hills surgery looks, very bad rigging at the back of the shoulders and buttocks, and wonky proportions.

Sydney has very nice hands, and the best thumb rigging I have seen.

I cant' recommend Apollo enough, Cath (or anyone else reading this). I bought him back when he was still in his 2005 incarnation, because he was just worth it; and I was very sad when Anton announced his retirement from the Poser scene, and his withdrawal of Apollo from the marketplace. So you can imagine my joy this year when Anton returned, not only with Apollo, but giving him and all previous content away, for FREE!!! Not only that, but there is a massive support and community forum for him over at CP (now with more posts in it than the main Poser 7 forum - not bad!), and there's always lots of littel community projects going on, such as celebrity morphs, texture packs for clothing, and so on.

Head on over to antonkisieldesigns.com and see what you're missing. I am almost willing to put money on it that you won't be disappointed.

He's got kind of an intimidating rig - for example he's got an extra midsection bone, an extra upper arm/chest bone, and an extra foot bone compared to most other rigs, and - ah - "very detailed" rigging for his manly bits, bones for his ears, and bones for flexy bits like biceps and pecs, but they add up to enormous function.

I still work more with V3 than V4. But that's mainly because I can save any morphs I make as INJ for V3. And I still haven't managed to save any of my morphs so I can use tham again for V4. Same with my P7 models. Some day I will figure it out and then I'll make some pretty faces for V4. On the male figures, I still like M2 better than M3 but make more textures for M3 because he seems more popular.

It is funny how many people like M2. I still use M2 more than M3 also. It is really limited what textures are available though. I was so sad I had no money when Catharine had that big going out the Poser buisness sale.

What would be neat is if someone made FBM morph sets for the M3 to M2 and V3 to V2 figures. Rember the Adrianna V2 to P4 figure that had all sorts of FBM and a clothes set too! A freebie no less! Those were the days! But really it is the V2 and M2 .cr2s I find the easiest to work with.

My favorite female is still the Victoria Pre-Teen scalled and morphed to be a grown women. Great bends and great FBM. Perfect for a realistic average height woman.

I use M2 mainly as my man although I like the V2 male and I have to say the P4 man is very nicely rigged.

those are my favorites though because of available clothes and textures I use the V3 Reduced Resolution and M3 Reduced Resolution an awful lot.

I love the shape of Miki 1 but it is hard to morph it and yikes the resolution kills my machine. James P6 has an apealing look too but also is hard to morph.

I have always liked Judy P5 but the Judy face is a terror, the default Judy Face Room head is nice though and the body is super womanly and realistic but as with the other EF figures very hard to morph. I am sad I got the downloadable P5 so I have never seen the P5 FBMs from the extra content disc. Given the FBMs for the other EF figures though they probably were not great. I feel like V4 FBMs such as heavy are a lot closer to EF FBMs then V2 or V3... basically unusable. I like V4's face which puts me in a minority maybe but I find the body very stylized... more Aiko then anything else.

For me?

I use almost exclusively the Vic3/Mike3 figures.

I like the SP3 as well, but as someoen earlier commented - VERY hard to 'un-steph' her face. Extremely difficult to make her face look original. Also very little vendor or freebie support in comparison to the M3/V3's.
Beyond that, I still use my Posette and my M2/V2 figures from time to time as well. Also the Generation 2 kids. (NOT Gen 3's)

But for me, I think the M3/V3 figures are my fav...

Have Aiko - can't stand her - never use her.
Don't have E-Frontier's stuff
Don't have apollo
Don't have...etc...
