Thanks AX - need new glasses. Steve - I reset my account (before I read this last post) and D/L'ed boththe Mac and PC and the current Mac download is 6.1.12.6 (March 2 2007) which is an older version for Intel Mac. I haven't a clue as to why it's not 6.1.13.1. Su - to get the newest version go to your DAZ account and select the Itemized History, find Bryce and to the far right hit the Reset button. Wait up to a half hour and it should then come up in your Available Downloads link. Be aware that this is not an updater but the complete app!

Hmmm...? I'm looking at DAZ and currently I don't see any links for the Version 6 updater. Maybe they are about to release a new one?

I think 6.1.13.1 was not working for the Mac so they pulled it/rolled back.
I know I've read a lot of complains from Mac users and 6.1.13.1 not working.
AX- That would make sense. 6.1.13.1 Mac was not working for brand new installs but worked OK for anyone that had any older version of B6 installed. Looks like they left out something in the 6.1.13.1 build so instead of fixing the missing components they just rolled back to an older build. Too bad since there were some Mac bug fixes in 6.1.13.1. Electro - see my comment to Su in the post before yours.
Does anyone know which presets you need to update???
These presets being something I was told over in the bug report section that you need to update too - because of some problem with something called "Legacy Content"???
So I need to know which presets I can save and then safely re add to the list.
Hopefully the presets I've carefully remade myself and horded both from my own images and my own made from scratch materials and textures, will be okay... (I've saved everything anyway)
Oh, my download is dated the 8:8:07 so hopefully it's the latest one and not number blibble blibble 12 instead of blibble blibble 13. But I expect I won't know until I can actually install it...

What I think they mean is some of the Object presets and some scene files created before B5 are corrupted when loaded into B6. For instance I have to load my B4 stuff into B5 (Corel) and save it out before it will load correctly into B6. I thought the included B6.1 presets were corrected and so far I haven't run into any problems (although I haven't tried every one). The black .OBJ import problem, it least for me, began with B6.1 and as far as I know has not been fixed. PS - sorry to hijack your thread!
I've got my update already. I just can't figure out where from? As long as you can get yours and I don't need to email you one the problem is solved.
I've had the black object problem myself. It's very inconsistant and has several cures.
Lot's of poser objects come in with the texture mapping all screwed up. Figures would be dark or look like a Vicki character with a P4 woman texture applied. Hand textures would be going across the belly, eyeballs on the knees, lots of white spaces where the edge of the texture got mapped to skin, etc. I found that changing anything like tweaking the diffuse or ambient setting caused the map to reorient and everything went back to normal. If you do this with the object grouped you may mess up the eyes because they often don't use the same map.
I've has the same or similar experience with other imported objects. Objects textured in Bryce 5.5 will open completely black. Most times the colors are there but the ambient channel has been turned down all the way to 3. A tweak of the sliders usually brings everything back.
Another problem I've had is with created obj or 3ds formats. A viking helm I downloaded was 3ds with ten mesh objects. When it was imported in from Bryce 5.5 all the objects were black and grouped together. I could assign bryce textures but I didn't want the rivets and the bands to be the same color, plus the scale was way off on the mapping.
I pulled the original 3ds file straight into bryce 6 and got the same results. I tried ungrouping and the U went away but when I clicked the object was still in three pieces not ten.
I opened the file in rhino and found out there was only one name for all the meshes (helm_1) and only three colors. I assigned slightly different colors and named each piece. The modified mesh came in black but each part could be given a different texture and the mapping looked a lot better.
Bryce 5 dealt correctly with a greater variety of objects than bryce 6 does. Many 3ds files won't even load but can be fixed by importing into wings and exporting without even modifying anything.
Gawd, what a lot of messed up problems, I hope they get version 7 to fix all this. And hopefully after I've got a job and can afford it.

Hi,
I've posted this over in Daz but although plenty of people have looked at it no one has replied - should have posted in here instead anyway.
So:
I've got to update Bryce as I can't be having with that total blackness when importing objects into Bryce.
I've finally managed to download all the parts - including the content and presets - since someone else had a problem with 6.1 with Legacy Content.
I have also saved the entire contents of my ProgramFiles/DAZ/Bryce6.1 files - as well as the Studio files also in Prog Files - just in case. Well, not entire, I didn't bother with the logs and .dll files in B6.1 or the BlackBox - maybe I should? Wouldn't take long.
What do you think?
Well whether I should or not, I just want to know, do I uninstall Bryce6.1 or just install the update and let it do what it wants to do?
?
