Subject: Notice: my website has gone down

ockham ( ) posted Sat, 27 October 2007 at 11:04 AM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 2:42 PM

IN case anyone is trying to access my stuff:

My website (ockhamsbungalow.com) has gone away.  I know what happened...
my credit card number was changed by Citicards because they believed
it had been stolen.  This happened a month ago, and I notified the ISP at that
point, but apparently the notification didn't "stick" with them.

The yearly renewal of the domain name is on Oct. 26, so I'm not surprised
that it disappeared today!   (You'd think they would at least send a notice
of non-payment first, but no.)

Something similar happened a few years ago, and the website luckily hadn't
been fully deleted so I was able to get it back without recopying and reloading.
We'll see what happens this time.....

I keep copies of the important stuff on my computer, so it's not entirely lost,
but the lesser items and the thumbnails may be gone.

Also, does anyone know of a more RESPONSIBLE web carrier?  One
that is careful to keep things running, and notifies you before "evicting"
you from your "web home"?

After two non-notified domain drops, I really shouldn't continue
to give my business to Freeservers.

Fool me once, as the saying goes.

Wow way harsh not giving notice. You had a lot of great things on your site that people regularly use. Sorry to hear about this trouble.

Yes sir-
This is my host and the service has rocked. Plus the space is huge and the bandwidth is WAY more then I ever use and my site is nothing but hundreds of  free downloads :) lol, The price is right :)

Miss N: By golly, ShareCG is THE answer for freebies, isn't it?  I tried to put stuff on
there once, and even established a membership, but then forgot about it!  This
will force me to remember.

@Geo:  I'll look at that site for my other stuff.

I'm sorry to hear about this! I did go to your site a couple of nights ago looking for some python scripts and your site had problems loading. I did get the scripts I was looking for. I really hope you find a new home for your site!!!

www.omnis.com

That's where my website is hosted (and has been for years), and I've never had a problem with them. If they send a payment through and for some reason it doesn't go through, they'll fire off an email to you telling you so... I did have it happen once when my old card expired, and I got an email telling me that they hadn't been able to process the payment.

Worth a look maybe? I don't know how much space you'd need or such, but they're good from what I've seen.

Thanks, Seliah, for specific experience.  I'll check that company first.

I'm already loading my freebies onto ShareCG.  Makes more sense
to be earning a few pennies than to be paying many dollars for bad service!
