What is with the ever-shrinking noses on Poser figures and artwork?  Browsing through the marketplace it seems like it's a contest to see who can make the smallest nose - it's already too small by default on most Poser figures, making it half that size does not help!  Noses are big.  They're wide!  They stick out!  They're not little nubs of flesh with two black dots on them!  Or light coming out of them either, but that's a different problem.  Even [ aggressive](http://www.landauercosmeticsurgery.co.uk/cosmetic-surgery/nose-correction-photos.html) [ plastic](http://www.canteraplasticsurgery.com/testimonials-donat-before-after-cosmetic-illinois.htm) [surgery](http://www.beverlyhillsbody.com/beforeafter/nose01.html) doesn't leave noses that tiny!

Is this the next step?

I've been wondering about this tiny nose tendancy too. Maybe it's to help the characters balance on their tippy-toes better ?? Unnatural celeb faces are warping our vision of beauty terribly. Give me a decent sized honk any day !

I think a big nose can be quite sexy. (Male or female.)

If it's been broken and set crooked, or you have a real old witch's hooked hooter, then fair enough with the surgery. But most of the people in those links that pjz gave - I think the only positive end result was for the surgeon's bank balance

Hahaha, sorry. Brit/US slang confusion there. For us, a "hooter" is generally your nose.

I suppose its a trend to the alien nose personally.  Noses might be small on some people but they do STICK OUT FROM THE FACE.  And a small nose doesnt equal this pencil (or thinner) thin septum line between the eyes.  Some of the small nosed wonders i've seen, i'd pity their ability to sleep and breathe at the same time.

Couldn't agree more with this statement.  It's sad, really, how easily people can be brainwashed.

The whole small nose thing is one of the main reasons I love Capsces'  Morphia morphs.  The noses on her morphs are a little oversized (IMO), but dialing a little bit of the morph in gives a face a much better (and more realistic) nose.

Sethren ( ) posted Tue, 30 October 2007 at 5:37 PM · edited Tue, 30 October 2007 at 5:38 PM

Larger noses can be nice. It depends of the shape profile of a persons face. Sometimes a larger nose can compliment the right face while smaller noses are just fine for the right face.

Here is a fine example of a larger nose complimenting a nice face.

The small flat nose is an Asian feature. Poser users seem to be into the Amerasian/elvish type.

I looked at the micro nose and giggled, since it's a trend I've noticed, too. I have a fondness for noses with character (except mine, of course). A unique and/or distinctive profile is a -good- thing.

In fact the nose is one of the most important things to make a face recogniceable, far more important than eyes. Ask any classical caricature artist. That's one main reason why Michelle Trachtenberg was rather easy to recreate in Polygons and Jessica Alba isn't.
Guys, let's found "DEFCON"

A DEFCON rating system would be interesting :) DEFCON 1 for the micro nose all the way to DEFCON 10 for the major honkers:) I like it.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

The fashion for a small hooter.uk and big hooters.us is definitely modern.

Look at Miss Americas from the 1920's and you'll see a lot of big
hooters.uk and small hooters.us!  (You'll see a whole lot more diversity
than modern beauty pageants, in other words.)

I think it is an artifact of the Poser cameras. I have seen this since Poser 4. Unless you are careful to develop a face with several display ports open to show different vantages Poser morphs tend to flatten the nose. I think people just work up a face from front and maybe 3/4s and forget to monitor the profile.

vince3 ( ) posted Wed, 31 October 2007 at 6:35 PM

my five year old has a well cute button nose, i am jealous of it, as i still haven't finished growing into my nose yet!!

...but you know what they say about blokes with big noses don't you?

And then again, maybe they just make bloody silly small noses for the same reason they make stupidly large eyes and hideously deformed lips.

Notice I didn't mention the gigantic boobs?  That's because (maybe it's something in the water) Brit women, particularly the Northern ones, seem to be extremely well endowed.

Yep, there's too many tiny noses in the Poser world. Mind you, there also used to be alot of tiny V3 heads knocking about. Talk about disproportionate!
Working on a proper size nose does add more realism to a character for sure.

KarenJ ( ) posted Thu, 01 November 2007 at 5:05 AM

Oh god yes. I think it must be the bracing northern air (or maybe it's just the fish and chips) but there are definitely bigger boobs in the North!

And I'm having an idea for a little comic strip about hooters now...

vincebagna ( ) posted Thu, 01 November 2007 at 6:20 AM

Here we say you can see the women with the largest hips in a certain area of Britanny, because of the weddings within cousins or brothers-sisters in the past. Some say it's because of that some people now limp... (so we are mainly considered as degenerated here in Britanny by the other French people...) :bored:
