Does anyone know of a site that has linear-PCM 8-bit or 16-bit files for download?
or
Is there anyone that has one that I could use for a personal project not for commercial use.

Thanks

Hi:

What are you trying to accomplish?
Are you looking for dialog to use with "Talk Designer," sound effects or background music?

I assume that you are aware of the fact that PCM files are .wav files which are generally uncompressed and can be quite large.

Sorry I should have specified what I want to do.
Yes, Bishop I am looking for dialogue to use with Talk Designer.
No, I am not aware of the size of PCM files.

I think the Poser Manual is in error as it says that any wav file will work. I have been trying for ages to work out how I could get the couple I had to work. But unfortunately I doubt whether wav files that have been encoded using MP3 compression will work as these are the ones I have been trying to work with.

Thanks again

Hello:

You are correct in assuming that the Mp3 encoded files will not work.  The required PCM .wav files should be uncompressed and if so, they work without issue.

All of our dialogue (voice-overs) is produced in our in-house recording studio via Nuendo (digital recording suite) and exported as uncompressed PCM .wav files.  Various and sundry voice altering hardware and software processing is employed to create the different characters.

That said, I must add that although I really enjoy working with P7 (Mac/Intel 8 core) and anxiously await the release of the much touted Poser Pro, I have not been impressed with Talk Designer.  Instead, aside from performing manual lipsynch in either Poser or Maya, we have been using Daz Production's Mimic.  If you plan on doing much in the way of lipsynch with Poser you might take a gander at this easy to use, yet sophisticated piece of software which allows for all kinds of phoneme tweaking and outputs a much more realistic lipsynched end-product.  The only caveat being that the Mac version requires .aif files rather than .wav but that has not been an issue for us.

As for your original question, regarding the availability of PCM files, our company, Avatar Creations, Inc,  a subsidiary of Freefictiononline, Inc, does indeed offer an audio production service.  If that is what you are in search of you can send off an e-mail, including the details (i.e. scripted dialogue, gender of character, etc.) to ata@freefictiononline.com.

Cheers

Heavenly Spirit you can make your own especially as you say you want to use it for a personal project. If you have a microphone record whatever you want to say with windows sound recorder (I assume it is windows you have) Record what you want to say then go to save you will have to click on 'save as' then click change and it will allow you to change and save it in the format you are looking for PCM 8.000 khz 8 bit mono. Do not quote me lol but i am sure this will work in the talk designer.
