Hi guys,

I have recently started my personal blog to monitor 'problematic' 3D content published at online stores. Currently I am monitoring Turbosquid, The3DStudio, Exchange3D, Modelbank and 3D02 resources but there are a few more to come.
My 'monitoring' includes reports for stolen content, unreasonable overpriced 3d models, poor quality items, etc.
So please feel free to take a look at and give me your comments.
Here is the link:

With respect to ALL,

Weren't you involved in a simlar project at one point, pernguinsito? I'm sure I recall a similar kind of topic being discussed, and you being involved somewhere along the lines...

And I second what he said, Alexx, with a further possible caveat - what may be deemed 'overpriced' byone market may not be in another, so don't judge everything by Poser pricing standards (unless it's poserware you're lookingat, obviously!). Also, 'poor quality' is a very subjective issue as well - I would recommend offering constructive criticism on items you feel aren't up to par, rather than a hitlist of what to avoid.

Other than that, good luck with it.

e-bay is also a good place to find dopes selling CDs full of freebies they got here and elswhere.

CGAlexx ( ) posted Thu, 01 November 2007 at 3:13 PM

John, thank you for your feedback.
I am not going to attack Poser pricing standards by saying "dah! this XXX model shouldn't cost $300! It's too much!".
You guys have your price & quality standards and I respect them.

I am aiming my criticism at 3D crap like 'green box with yellow cone for $54.95' or 3d software generated stuff , or unreasonable overpriced stuff.

Do you agree that this one looks too overpriced? ($3795 just for the head):

Great idea. I will add e-Bay to my 'monitoring' list :-)

I took a look at the site, I laughed at the "GOT SH*T" Blog. Definitely something worth doing. Add ShareCG to your stuff as I have found several stolen items there as well.

Personally, pricing and quality are subjective however I think just about everything listed on your site is something that people will need to know.

Good Luck

Mestophales, thanks!
May I see your 'several stolen items' links? Are you sure they are 'stolen'? If so, I will eat its seller and the store alive in my blog :)

As for 'ShareCG' -- good idea; i still need to fugure out how to do this with this blog settings. But you are welcome to post comments to the blog

there are obviously many items that look ridiculously-priced to us on the 'squid and elsewhere, but their clients have deep pockets, big budget numbers to meet or they'll get less money next year, an "I needed it yesterday" mentality, and all kinds of excuses why they can't spend their money wisely. it's also very obsessive-compulsive. we have got many folks buying stuff from more reasonable markets like here and daz, and they still manage to spend $,$$$ per year on many items with very small price tags individually.

I know some people are buying FaceGen-generated 3d human faces for $100. That's ridiculous.

So lets make 'squid and modelbank to adjust their prices and get rid of obveous 3d software-generated crap ;-) Let customers spend their money on the real stuff.

Oh, yeah... then real life sucked away all my time (and then working for DAZ for awhile kinda kept me from ever hoping to do any such thing without someone screaming "bias!"), but yes, in 2005 I was working to do something similar. That's when all but the high-end merchants got really nervous and started shouting at me. I saw more obvious clone accounts getting their abuse on during the first week of my little "Name 'em and Shame 'em!" exploration, than you'd see in all of the Star Wars movies put together. :)

Someday I'd like to have enough free and clear time to actually devote soemthing towards that end. I still have the old site archived, at least enough so that I have all the criteria lists stashed away. Anyone wants 'em can have 'em freely, gratis.

/P

I just might visit that for the LOLz... Some of the items you're pointing out are pretty crap-tastic.

Also might stop by there to keep an eye out for anything recognizable that gets yoinked and sold by people who did not make or own something. Nice to get a "heads-up" on this kind of thing.

This was the link to a freebie space ship that I found the other day I notified www.3drt.com about the illegal distribution of their free download and the admins on ShareCG within a few hours they had removed it and suspended the account of the person who was claiming it was their work.

http://www.sharecg.com/v/7379/3d-model/space-shooter

Almost every time I come across something it is usually a freebie item they are claiming is theirs, but the 3d community is small enough still, to spot peoples work. Amazing they keep trying. ShareCG has been really good about removing items and suspending accounts when I notify them of the issue.

I am along the thought path, if I like a model I see the odds are I will buy it regardless of price, for example Sanctum Art's GRIM - $70 dollar price tag which for a poser character seems steep but for the quality you get, it is nothing compared to the joy of time spent rendering with it.

Keep up the blog I like it.

Yeh, I know that. I became sick and tired trying to catch bad guys who sell my models under their names.
You spend weeks modeling cool stuff, submit it for sale to TS, and I guarantee it will soon be available for sale in whole bunch of small content sharing stores for "just 10 dollars".
Its time to kick their butts seriously. Now I am giving up modeling for sale and be monitoring CG content stores for stolen stuff.

Another issue is junk models. They are spreading all over the web; Tsquid, Modelbank became huge junkyards of overpriced crap. Good high quality models among the ocean of crapy stuff may not reach their customers. Thats why I am monitoring CG junk very seriously.

Hey pauljs75,

Just checked your blog. Looks awesome! :-)

Thanks!  First time I actually heard someone say they looked at it. :)
(And I was going for the most unread blog record too.)

BTW...  Why isn't your blog link in your sig? Oh, you've gotta add a sig first.

I'd love to sell some stuff, but I can't make a low or reasonably low poly model to save my life.

Yeh, I did not figure out how to add signature yet.
Speaking about my blog: I will be adding breif posts to it without any hope that somebody will read'em. We'll see how it goes. So far I have already collected enough info for daily blog updates within a year :) Stay tuned! :)

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Mon, 05 November 2007 at 2:24 PM

bone, it can be a freebie on sharecg. ya make money just giving it away. the poser market has an infinite capacity to download freebies, and an almost unlimited capacity to buy stuff, several times even (or so I'm told).

Hey, guys, what do you think about the following? Somebody simply copy&paste the existing content store, than deploy it as a brand new '3DExpose' store:

Looks a little strange to me..
