Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 22 10:18 pm)
Poser 7 will not replace Poser 6. The parent directory is called "e frontier", rather than "Curious Labs", and the home directory itself is called "Poser 7".
I don't have Vista, so I can't comment on that, but which utility do you use to unzip files? On XP, I don't use the internal zip/unzip function, but always use WinRAR. Can you give any details of the problems?
Thanks for the reply...
I use winrar.... when I try to unzip files to poser 7 I get an cannot complete error and corrupted file et all... so I have to unzip the files in their current directory and move them by hand into poser 7... hope this makes sense... I didn't save the error files on my friends computer.
It's not a Vista thing, well it could be!!
With Vista it's absolutely important that you have set full permissions on all your folders in Poser, if you haven't you will get problems laoding content, DAZ installers seem particularly bad, they throw up an error message but they install ok if you ignore the message!
Also make sure you run Poser or any other 3D software in Admin mode, again if you don't you'll have problems!

Yes I agree, I normally put a link in to a very good site that helps setting up Vista but forgot this time so here it is now! The link goes to the memory part which I wanted to know about, but navigation from there is easy enough! This site helped me a lot when I first had Vista, it may help in this case [or not!!].Injustice will be avenged.

Quote - ...does it overwrite Poser 6? Or does it install as a seperate entity?
And.... Poser 7 on a windows vista computer seems to have problems installing anything from a zip file, but exe's are fine.... is this a vista thing??? It's very annoying having to place everything by hand on a friends computer....
Argh....
My Desktop system is WinXP Pro, love it.
Not by choice, My LapTop has Vista Home Premium.
I first loaded Poser 7 outside of the Program Folder File. It ran OK.
I later loaded Poser 7 in the Program Folder. It runs OK.
I did have trouble with Vista wanting to run my P7 CD by Auto.
I ended up Right clicking the exe file and installing P7.
I generally find all the Security with a Vista a pain in the ar$e.
Zips expand, but tend to create a subfolder in the folder I want them expanded to.
exe's I Right click and "Run as Admin.
You may find things a little easier by Disabling UserAccountControl

At times, Vista will not allow me to rename a folder. I am the Admin and the only user on the system.
