Blender F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 23 10:50 am)
You don't need to re-render anything, at least not in Blender. If you have video editing software such as Windows Movie Maker, you can open your video files in that program and encode them in a different format. This is substantially faster than doing another "render within Blender."

It is better to do one thing well, than to do many things and excel at nothing.

I still reckon you may want to look at a video editor rather then working back in blender take a look at Jahshaka (vid editor) or Wax (compositor / editor)
http://www.jahshaka.org/
http://www.debugmode.com/wax/
both OS and good bits of kit, haven't used shaka yet as I have premier, just downloaded and played, but wax is good kit for free....

whats good about them I havent much time left the challenge ends within a week so no real time to learn complicated functions or difficulties with codex. I have a version of musicmaker that does editing too so if all else fails i use that, I liked playing with the virtual insturments that came with it but thats besidethe point. I still prever using the blender editor as it doesnt mind puting scene files that arent rendered into the time line, thats cool for scenes that still are being changed.

Quicktime is more of a professional codec used by video editors. An MP4 is a delivery format that is heavily compressed. If you have to work with the file again (which it seems you do because you are editing it), then you are editing a copy of a copy. It is kind of like always saving your output in a JPEG after a few edits the original looks crappy.
MP4 edits will suffer the same fate.
if i want uncompressed ill save as uncompressed avi or jpg pics. I hate the quictime installer it always meshes up windows in the background.

what is the best way to edit mp4 movies created by blender?? I cant seem to reimport the files created by blender? Is there an mp4 codec that makes thispossible or do I need to re render the scenes in a diffrent format?
