Subject: Icon Display?

Hey all, another dumb question but this time I'm a little irritated.

I notice that after I install a certain amount of items into a folder inside poser (IE: MAT textures for hair) the icons for the loading don't show up anymore and all I get is the names. (See attached picture)

Now I understand the program did this to save one's scroll bar from being the size of a pin head, but I can't tell diddly flipcakes what I'm clicking on unless there's thumbnails there ('specially when it comes to a new product). So is there any way to make Poser show the thumbnails again?

.....

Please?

Hi Li-C.,**

**Use the Main menu to:

[menu]  **"Edit" >>> "General Preferences..." >>> "Library" (tab)

**... to change the Library settings for the Thumbnail Display.

Erm...All I get is a box asking if I want to launch it to factory default or preferred state...I see no tabs. (I'm using P5, does that make a difference?).

Yes, in Poser 5, adjusting the number of thumbnails that are displayed is a little more difficult to change.

I will put together a set of instructions for you.

Speaking of mat poses....

DG, For certain clothing, I.e. Fantasy Morphing Dress I have a billion textures...more like 12 :p All in their own folder. I was thinking of copying and pasting all the poses and textures to one folder. Thing is, some folders have like 6 poses. So in ONE pose folder there are 12 icons. 6 mats/poses and 6pngs.

Smart having ONE pose and ONE texture folder for all the textures of an item? Will it limit how many will show in the library? Will I have to do what's suggested upthread?

12 texture folders for my MFD condensed would look like this:

runtime/textures
runtime/poses

^Just ONE folder. Imagine having 12 folders altogether, and some having more than one Mat in them; wanting to copy them all to to ONE texture folder and ONE pose folder. Recommended?

Hi SSAfam1,

If I understand you correctly, the only "limit" on the number of Library items is the size of your HDD (disk) and not the number in the .xml file, per se.

The number in the .xml file is used to determine when thumnail images are displayed in the library ... or not.

If the number of items in the Library folder is less than  the "previewNum" in the .xml file ...
... then the thumbnail images ARE displayed.

If the number of items in the Library folder is greater than the "previewNum" in the .xml file ...
... then the thumbnail images ARE NOT displayed.

In other words ...

Number of items in folder less than (<)  "previewNum" ... display thumbnails
Number of items in folder greater than (>)  "previewNum" ... do not display thumbnails

Ok? ... OK.

Recommended? ... I can not say ... you need to do what works best for you in terms of organization.

Different people use different types of organizations.
Find the one that works best for you and then ... use it, n'es't pas? ... 😄

Alrighty. As long it's an "organizational" (what's best for user) thing and not  an "overloading" and "slowing down" type of thing. That was my concern. As it stands now, I have 12...maybe more runtimes(for texturs) for certain items. I definately would like to condense them. The reason I thought maybe it wasn't such a good idea was because I would see texture packages offered in volumes. I.E. "texure pack volume 1 and volume 2" and wondered why they weren't all put into one folder...

Many thanks DG!

Poser does load faster the less content you have in your runtime, and it will launch more quickly if you leave it in a small runtime when you shut it down.

However, the sizes at which you experience slowdown will vary depending on your individual PC specs, so you might have to do some experimenting.
