Subject: GG2 anyone?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sat, 03 November 2007 at 12:16 PM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 3:37 PM

I've seen this figure in the Marketplace and wondered how widely it's used.

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=59026&vendor=28245

I know a lot of figures tend to fall by the wayside due to a lack of support but that's a two way street.  Vendors are reluctant to make stuff for a figure that's not too popular (it's happened to me) and customers won't buy something if there's nothing for it.  Myself, I don't really have a use for toon style figures so I'd only be buying this to develop stuff for it.

So, good people, how many of you have GG2?

Looks like a copy of AikoToon. And AikoToon can wear all Aiko's stuff

I have no GG2, but... honestly I can't see future in it

Hi!

I bougth the original GG and when GG2 came out, the vendor (Ali) was kind enough to give it to me for free as an upgrade.

I think its a cool and very well done figure and that it surely can compete with the rest of the characters around.

Didn't know about this GG2 until reading this thread! I can't see myself buying this character, but I will say, IMHO, she's a lot cuter than, "The Girl". No disrespect, but I can't see how she (The Girl) gets any play. She's scarey!

pakled ( ) posted Sat, 03 November 2007 at 9:03 PM

Well, not as 'scary' as HER...but I like HER...but that's me...;)

It's been out since July 2007 according to the Readme.

If I was a toon character user I'd probably buy it anyhow.  It looks very nicely made and as stated above, is cute.

Me to! I really like GG and think she's a great character and Ali is a very cool merchant. Ali has a site called Mankaho (http://www.mankaho.com/) where he has two really cute outfits for her and one is a very practical to.

Stupid site double spaced everything in quotes and the [edit my post] isn't working. Errrgh!

She looks interesting, but if it's taken this long for anyone to notice her, odds are she'll be one of the huge number of figures with no support at all.

I've seen her around, and her male counterpart JJ. I thinks she's adorable, has a very expressive face, great body... But until a clothing converter includes her, I've sworn off purchasing. A handful of clothing outfits does not a very useable figure make....

See, don't I sound wise... If only I can hold out.  :tongue1:

Kinda like neftoon gal.. I LOVE that figure, but there's next to nothing available for her at all, plus neftis discontnued her.

Heck, she could at least make a neftoon gal.pal bundle with all their extras uber cheap so they would at least be available.

Thanks for all your info, people.  I went and bought it anyhow.  The mapping looks promising so it should be fairly straightforward to texture.

Looks like the topology is very nicely laid out. Not too rez heavy and easy to work with. A talented modeler could make the market, if you get my meaning.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2007 at 11:53 PM

Now for the $63 question: how does it bend? I still have Neftoon Gal stashed about somewhere, haven't used it in years. Same with Alexa. Never got hold of The Girl (DAZ thing), etc. What killed using a lot of the figures were the joints... a lot of them bent like crap, IMHO (then again, so did a lot of DAZ' stuff in the early days, and A3 still suffers from some bad effects here and there). There are of course overriding exceptions, but by and large? If it bends like crap and costs money to acquire? Nuh-uh. Now if someone made a figure that bent decently? They stand to break into the market rather nicely, IMHO. If this one holds up under bending pressure, it stands to grow, methinks. /P

As far as I can tell from a quick test, the figure bends very nicely.  Certainly the legs bend much better than V3, A3, etc.  The butt doesn't seem to balloon up, either.

Where could we see her male counterpart?
Because i have Hiro Toon but since his head and neck are differently UV mapped than default Hiro, you cannot use Hiro skin, so i'm interesting in other toony character.

Ali has the male counterpart named JJ2 on his own site mankaho.com http://www.mankaho.com/

Had another bit of a play with the model and I'm very impressed with the way it bends.  There's the ApMax style shoulder, as adopted by most figures lately, so the arms bend up and down quite nicely.  The elbows are pretty good, too.  Not too much of that bent straw thing going on and the outer elbow looks pretty good too.  Knees bend well and the leg/hip jucntion is very nice; no flattening in sitting poses.

Sorry I can't post any pics; you'll just have to trust me. :)

I thought she bent well to but was afraid my opinion wouldn't be worth much since I don't rig things at the moment. She is pretty darned cool.

Nor me but I know bad joints when I see them (V3 etc) and good ones, too.

I'm very pleased with GG2 and I'll definitely work on something for the model.

Thank you, SamTherapy and mylemonblue :) I think she has a good set of expressions morphs and as others have said, she bends quite well.
