Very good subject here.  Not many running about right now with cooler weather setting in..but will give it a shot....    I assume this means bugs, six legged or not?  Sure it does.

I noticed that 6 pictures of spiders have been entered in the Genre Challenge “Insects” !

Spiders are not insects !

Spiders are arachnids. They eat insects.

Arachnids have eight legs and two body segments (cephalothorax, abdomen).

Insects have 6 legs and 3 body segments (head, thorax, abdomen).

Insects have antennae (that’s how they smell) and spiders don’t (they sense through bristles on their legs) ;

Insects usually have wings, spiders never.

Information adapted from Science World.

Well, it’s too late for the challenge, but never too late to learn…

And at least, it will make my vote easier…

But may be a suggestion : why not entitle the Genre “Insects – Spiders” ?

I also noticed that two pictures ( #29 and #30) are signed, infringing the anonymity rule !

48 – 6 – 2 = still 40 to choose from…

@Gimi53...you are correct....I didn't think that spiders were classed as insects either.

When the new Insect genre was first created...one of my uploads in the Macro genre was moved by Rendo to the Insect genre....if I recall, I think it was of a spider.
Anyway, I just shrugged it off and moved my other macros....spiders included, into "Insects"

Regarding the anonymity rule....I voted for #29...I saw the sig on it as well as #30....I don't know who the person is....But again, you are correct....perhaps those photos should be eliminated.

BTW...there are some that contain names in the EXIF data as well.....so, the list of eligible entrants should probably be shortened further....

But, all in all, this is just a fun thing...there is no real prize here...so, as long as voting is not compromised, it's not a real issue to get too stressed out about....

In youth, we learn....with age, we understand.

but if you go by a different logic...then insects are creepy crawlies.....spiders are creepy crawlies...so insects and spiders are both creepy crawly insects

Congrats to those who placed, and to the winner. Very beautiful pics of small creatures, insects, bugs, creepy crawlies.  I entered on the last day and my Dragonfly placed 4th. Thanks to those who voted. I was pleasantly surprised.
