Attached Link: Portrait Challenge

It's that time again!  It's time for the Monthly Challenge (That will start being monthly again!)!!

I chose this month's theme with Beginners in mind, but it is open to all members!  Not all of us do portrait work, so it can be a little tricky to get it right, even if you've been doing this for years ;)

The whole slew of rules are on the challenge page (linked above), but here are the major ones:

Rules:

  • Final render must be in Poser, any version.

  • No nudity, implied sexuality, or violence.

  • No Postwork

-Open to all Renderosity members.

-One Image Per Member

-Please keep the images to a maximum of 800 pixels by
600 pixels and not more than 150k.

-Thumbnails MUST be included, and must be the correct size: 100 X 100 pixels.

-Please remember the TOS.

Challenge starts Sunday, October 28, 2007 and ends Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Midnight Renderosity time.

Have fun, and good luck!!

No Postwork?  Now that's what I call a proper challenge...mainly 'cos I can't paint hair to save my life. ~lol~

Ah! A Challenge! Great! I do hope to get something in on this.  -  Granted, I haven't been very available around here this past month, being plagued with a slew of outer world issues of late my online time has been frustratingly limited to say the least. But things seem to be leveling off and hope to be back in the swing soon.

Good luck to all who enter!

slinger ( ) posted Tue, 30 October 2007 at 11:44 AM

One question, if I may..?
Is cropping the final render considered postwork?  I have "plan" but it would involve rendering the image slightly over-size and then cropping it in Photohop, but that's all.

The liver is evil - It must be punished.

Acadia ( ) posted Tue, 30 October 2007 at 12:29 PM

Is adding your name to the image considered "post work"?

Also, where are these images supposed to be posted?

JenX ( ) posted Tue, 30 October 2007 at 1:17 PM

Postwork is changing colors in the final render or painting/airbrushing the image in photoshop.  We're not so pedantic as to say that there can be no cropping or signatures.

You post images to the challenge page, just like in every other challenge set upon the challenge page.

Does changing colors mean we can't make it greyscale and remove all color? TIA for the answer. :-)

No, greyscaling the image is too much in the way of postwork.  If we allowed that, we'd have to allow other hue shifts, since it's running in the same vein.
If you're looking for a black and white image, it is possible, with material settings, to make your figure grey, it just takes some material room fiddling ;)

Where is the "Challenge page"?

There are lots of entries, how does this "voting" system work?  With all of the entries you will be lucky if  there are 2 votes on an image.  Will there be an initial and secondary voting to narrow the choices?

That just takes me to the same place as the "poser challenge" link located below the forum banner at the top of the page, or the "Open Contest" link in the right side menu and then clicking on "Poser Portrait Contest" which is where we uploaded the images for the contest.

Apparently voting is supposed to be from today until the 30th, but I don't see any place to vote.

Due to a few people having trouble getting images to upload, I'm waiting on a few people to send in their actual entries.  Tonight, at 7pm EST, I'll open the challenge to voting.  I'm sorry about the wait, there have just been a few problems.

LOL, isn't it though!

I'm really impressed by what I'm seeing given that you couldn't post work the image. That made it really challenging and everyone rose to the occasion :)

I'm testing something today but I plan on working my way through the entries this evening.

I'm game if  it's a dynamic hair prop. But not many computers can manage dynamic hair built in the hair room.  I doubt mine can.

Are there actually dynamic hair props out there that look halfway decent? I don't use dynamic hair at ALL because A) My computer CHOKES on it, and B) I don't like the way they look... they remind me of a ferret who's just been put through the drier and is having a bad furball day. LOL

Yes there are. Try this site. Make sure you read the readme for instructions. These props are worked in the Pose room not the hair room.
