THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Self sponsered Bryce art competitions?

Here is an idea, and I don't know if it has already been done, but here goes.

I would like to suggest a Bryce contest in which each entrant gives Renderosity say a small amount like $5 to enter and this is then payed out by Renderosity to the winner (inc. 2nd and 3rd place as well maybe) in the form of a voucher that can be spent at the Renderosity market place. The contest could also be judged by the Renderosity staff or any other way.

What do you think?

You would probably have to ask the admins if it is legal for them to do this under whatever gambling laws they work under first I would say.

34 views and no interest?

I guess Bryce really is a dead fish then, no one is interested.

I would have thought that this forum really needed something to boost interest..... but I can see i'm just wasting my time here.

Guess I'll go use Terragen or Vue instead, there seems more interest in those forums.

Personally,  I would be game. First thing I'm sure the Staff here would need to set rules if this type of competition is doable.

How many entries would be an acceptable amount to make an entry fee worth it. Just to play devils advocate, 4 people commit, would it make it more interesting if the fee were 25.00? as most calls for Art require.(just a few things to consider)
10 to 20 entries at this rate would call for lots of interest and a fairly structured set of rules.

If no one goes for this, Good luck & have fun.

Au contraire - this forum is quite active. Granted, I've seen it busier - but I think that since the marketplace is aimed at Poser over everything else, the idea of winning a voucher may be of limited appeal in this forum. Personally, I enter challenges for my own satisfaction, and out of my desire to expand my skills. Having someone else set a theme forces you out of your 'comfort zone', and makes you try new things. ...And there's no need to resort to blasphemy... : )

Whenever you bring $$$ into a situation, more often than not, it casues problems.

Also will this type of contest turn into an Elitest thing? What I mean by that is, how are the submissions going to be judged? Based on What?  There are varies degrees of talented skills on here.. I'm not going to throw any names out, but there are quite a few who's artwork is always outstanding.  So how would you judge the Novice Entrants against the Experts?

As for not commenting on this thread, it may be that like myself, others are busy on their various projects.

I think that these  kind of contests are more geared  to the people which are rather experienced with the program, but not for the novices, who are unlikely to win the prize. Of course it depends also of the possibility of having different categories.

Best regards

dhama, like i stated in another post i don't post much these days in this forum plus i don't use bryce because i have lost interest in it.

Anyway i'll have a say here and then you might be able to figure out one or two reasons why i lost interest in the program and contests held.
I started using bryce ages ago and became a member on this site then. Back then i was interested in learning the program and granted i was with the help of members on here. everytime a contest was held i would put the time in to do something for the contest but never posted it because it got to the stage that once one was announced one would know who they would be competing against and could pick the top 5 out of those that would win. Don't take that wrong everyone deserves to win but for a beginner/novice it soon becomes disheartening to watch the sameones win and come 2nd or 3rd each time.

As for your contest its a good idea but there could be legal problems with the aspect of handing money over for it. First off the Staff here would need to get the ok to do this then i believe they would also need to send some form of receipt for that money to cover themselves as well.

But hey i wish you luck with it and i'll pop in to see how things go.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.
