Subject: Thumbnails for first level library entries

Has anyone figured out how to replace the folder icon at the first listing level in Poser libraries with one of the images from within the folder? I know the software will accept images there... you can drag an item out into the main list and the image shows up very nicely. However, this is not feasible when you have a character with 29 presets and options. To try and make it clearer, I woul like the replace the folder icon with a key image from the package it represents, so that when I scroll down, I see images, not folders.

Anyone know a work-around?

You lost me!

However, the only thread I know of that addresses icons in the poser library is this one. Not sure if that is what you are talking about or not.

Just looked at that link, Acadia.  didn't know you could do that....having icons in front of the main folder like that.

Question:

What exactly are presets in Poser? From using PSP9, I know they're saved settings i.e. 10 inner bevel presets. What's considered presets in Poser? Like all the lights in the library etc that come with Poser?

Sorry... let me try to be clearer.

You open Poser and click on, say, "Poses". What you are presented with there is a column of blue folder icons with the name printed under them. THIS is the list I want to change. I have used 3PD0 to copy one of the pz2 files in the folder out to this main list, and if I rename it to the same name as the folder, I have an icon for that folder just above it. What I was wishing for a way to do was to make the blue folder go away and be replaced by an icon of the actual product.

Let's face it... a lot of merchants are not real good about the way they label things, and a picture of the item out there on the first level listing would certainly help! :)

You can solve that naming problem by using naming continuity when you install something.

When you go to install an .exe or a .zip file for Poser content, don't do it directly into the runtime folder.  Things get messed up and lost very quickly doing that. Instead create a new folder on your desktop or somewhere else that you use strickly for installing poser content before it goes to your runtime. I have a folder on my c: drive called "!!Unzipped that I use for that purpose.

Let's say that I purchased a clothing package from "John Smith'. Now let's say that this package consists of a dress, textures for the dress, lights, hair, camera settings and some jewellery.  When I unzip the package  I may find new folders for that package in the following library  folders:

camera
character
hair
poses
props

I open each of those folders and rename the new folders inside to something that I can relate too. For example:  John Smith - Snazzy Red Dress.   After renaming the folders I move them to my usual runtime folder.

Now when I go to use the "Snazzy Red Dress", I can open poser and look in each of my library folders and see at a glance all things related to that dress package.

You can take it a step further.

Let's say that you manage to find some textures for Snazzy Red Dress.

When you install them don't just drop them into your Pose folder. Name the folder they are in to  something like "CindyD - Red Dress TX" and put  the folder into the "John Smith - Snazzy Red Dress" folder inside the Pose folder.  This way you keep all MAT textures related to that outfit in one spot.  That's what I do.

I think i understand what basiwiz wants to know:

It's not the way of extracting nor the names of folders he/she wants to change, but the very image of the folder. I mean folders are represented by an image of a folder, and he/she wants to replace that folder image by the product image.

But sorry i don't know how to do that :(

Oddly I recently wrote to eFrontier asking they add this function to the poser 8 wishlist, LOL. Of course it may be a moot point now but I receive a rather nice answer indicating that several people had already asked but the more that do ask may influnce them to add the function.

As I understand it the blue folder icon is a single standard icon which the progam calls muctiple time so even if you can find it you could only change it for another single icon. Not really the asnwer I want, I'd rather have icons representing the contents of the various folders.
