Subject: How to make leather...

jartz ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2007 at 8:10 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 4:25 AM

as a Poser shader - as wondering if anyone have any ideas on a shader.  I was thinking about changing a clothing texture and making it leather.  Was also thinking along the line of wanting to make a leather bump map (a texture reference like RDNA free leather) and just do a few little shader tricks.

I hope I don't get creamed for this, but would this be something that Bagginsbill created - something to do with the Matmatics - I guess?

Thanks.

JB

Ajax has a free material pack that includes leather shaders

RDNA has some leather materials in their free area.  Leather, latex, satin... all kinds of material actually.

Do you have a link to it - might I ask?

Thanks for the post, svdl.

Click "free stuff" in the left menu.  Then "RDNA Downloads", then near the top of the next page cilck "Search". Type in  ***material ***  and it will bring up the materials in the free area.

Here is the link to Ajax's freebies.  The one you want is the Poser 5 Shader Pack.

If you download my freebie titled "Blacksmith Apron for Apollo" (wither one of the two) inside you will find a leather shader made by bagginsbill.  (no matmatic needed). Install the packet, and go in the material room under Blacksmith apron mat presets.

Use it and apply it to the clothing you want to make leather.

All of the above suggestions are right on. This is not meant as a tutorial but just as another alternative, maybe something will click for you when you try this:

MaterialRoom/NewNode/3d Textures/Granite
You can play with how many shades which will alter the look or bumpiness of your leather.
Plug it into your bump channel with about a .003
Plug it into your displacement channel with about a .001
Alter your diffuse color as appropriate.
Not meant for upclose work.

Hope this helps 😉

There is a leather shader that comes with Poser in the basic materials folder in the material room you could use as a start.
